Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Commemorates Like a Dragon Series’ 19th Anniversary

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for immersive narrative-driven games, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about the upcoming “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.” Having played through the entire series, from its humble beginnings to its recent global success, it’s fascinating to witness Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio‘s growth and commitment to their unique universe.

For quite some time, the “Yakuza / Like a Dragon” franchise was popular only among a specific group of fans in Japan. However, the last few years have brought it recognition and fandom on a global scale. With each successive victory, this series has now reached its 19th anniversary. In celebration of this milestone, the developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, led by studio director and executive producer Masayoshi Yokoyama, has shared a message.

In a video posted on Twitter, Yokoyama provided a sneak peek into the studio’s upcoming initiatives as they approach the series’ 20th anniversary next year. These include several announcements and updates, as well as the release of “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” scheduled for February.

Yokoyama stated that it’s been 19 years since the initial game in the series debuted in Japan, and we are now heading towards its 20th anniversary. Excitingly, he announced that on February 21, 2025, a new installment titled “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” will be unveiled first, beginning next year.

Set in Hawaii following the events of ‘Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth’, this title follows the well-known character, Goro Majima, on a pirate spree. It offers a new, engaging storyline and thrilling combat action that can be enjoyed regardless of your familiarity with the latest or earlier installments.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio typically releases new games in the Like a Dragon series at a consistent rate, so it’s not unanticipated that they might announce additional instalments in the near future, particularly to mark the series’ 20th anniversary. It’s even possible that another remake could be planned as well?

Currently, “Like a Dragon: Pirates, Yakuza in Hawaii” is scheduled to be released on February 21 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and personal computers (PC).

Happy Like a Dragon Day!🐉

Masayoshi Yokoyama, Director and Executive Producer from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, takes the moment to extend a heartfelt message in celebration of this special event🎉.
