As a long-time Path of Exile player, I must admit that I find myself torn over the recent announcements from Grinding Gears Games regarding the upcoming nerfs for Path of Exile 2. On one hand, I understand and appreciate the developer’s commitment to maintaining balance in their game, especially with such a vast array of skills and mechanics available. However, as someone who has spent countless hours mastering various builds and strategies, it feels like the rug is being pulled out from under me just a few days after the early access release.
Grinding Gears Games has revealed that there will be further adjustments to Path of Exile 2, which has left players feeling disgruntled. The newly launched RPG in early access this month has rapidly become one of the most significant releases of 2024, ranking among the top 20 biggest Steam launches ever, and it’s still not completely released. However, even though the game is still in development, it is already undergoing balance changes, which some early players find to be excessively aggressive.
Previously mentioned was the adjustment for Supercharged Slam, and now developer Grinding Gears Games has announced another modification. In detail, the developer intends to modify Gas Cloud explosions, stating that they are “too simple to trigger” when used alongside persistent Ignite skills such as Flame Wall.
In the upcoming update, we’re intending to modify the blast effect of both Gas Grenade and Gas Arrow.
Moving forward, our plan is to adjust the system so that the strength of Ignite or Detonator impacts the power of Gas Cloud explosions. This change aims to eliminate the need for constant balancing by finding the most straightforward and effective method to ignite gas.” (Developer’s statement)
It’s understandable that certain enthusiasts aren’t thrilled with this recent change, given that they were anticipating other adjustments that were previously mentioned. Essentially, some fans find it disappointing that numerous balancing changes are being implemented in a game that’s just starting out, when there are still other issues to address.
One supporter of the news expresses surprise, saying, “This isn’t typical of you,” given your long-term involvement with Path of Exile. “Your current focus on adjustments, particularly early nerfs, seems unusual…given the numerous other issues related to balance within the game. What’s behind this decision?
A different supporter comments, “Why continually penalize players for discovering creative setups? What’s the reason behind Grinding Gear Games?
Certainly, while some individuals seem open to the changes, the majority of reactions to the update on platform X, especially on social media, appear frustrated that balance adjustments are being prioritized or that nerfs are being implemented just a few days after the game’s early access launch. Nevertheless, your feedback is always welcome, and if you have thoughts about whether Grinding Gear Games should pace themselves when it comes to Poe2 nerfs, feel free to share them!
