Some long-awaited classic Activision-Blizzard games just appeared on the Microsoft Store, could Xbox be getting another Game Pass injection?

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation as we witness the gradual integration of Activision Blizzard into Microsoft’s gaming ecosystem. I remember playing Call of Duty on my old Xbox 360, and now seeing those older titles pop up on the Microsoft Store has brought back a flood of nostalgic memories.

It might be that additional Activision Blizzard games will appear on Microsoft’s gaming subscription platform within the upcoming weeks.

Three older versions of Call of Duty, including Call of Duty + United Offensive, Call of Duty 2, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, have surfaced on the Microsoft Store. It’s common for Activision Blizzard games to appear on Xbox PC or the Microsoft Store before they become available on Xbox Game Pass. The timeframe can range from a few weeks to several months.

The Spyro Reignited Trilogy, initially noticed on a store page in April, was later added to Xbox Game Pass in November. Regardless of the time gap, these recent listings suggest that there might be a release of new games for both Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass subscribers within the next few months.

Xbox continues to slowly integrate Activision Blizzard

In October 2023, Microsoft completed its purchase of Activision Blizzard. Since then, integrating Activision Blizzard into the broader Xbox family has been an ongoing process.

Over the past couple of months, there’s been a gradual uptick in the release of Activision Blizzard games such as Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Diablo 4, StarCraft Remastered and the StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection, and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, which were previously mentioned.

Among the Call of Duty games available on the service, only Modern Warfare 3 (2023) is currently a legacy title. Black Ops 6, a more recent game, was simultaneously launched across the service on October 25, 2024. However, considering these listings, it seems likely that this exclusive status of Modern Warfare 3 might not hold for long in the future.

Behind the scenes, a substantial amount of work is always being done for various games, regardless of their type. However, it’s important to note that not all these games currently offer compatibility with Xbox Play Anywhere – a highly beneficial feature that has been a key component in Microsoft’s exclusive game library across Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks.

We’re also still waiting to see Raven Software’s criminally-underrated first-person shooter Singularity added to the service, as it’s been some months after a Microsoft Store listing first popped up. It would be nice to see some of these games get Xbox Series X|S versions in a revival of Microsoft’s backward compatibility efforts, but based on how Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled wasn’t ported to PC when it was added to Xbox Game Pass, I’m not exactly holding my breath.
