As I delve into the tragic tale of Brian Thompson, a man whose life was brutally cut short by senseless violence, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of sorrow and disbelief. As someone who has dedicated my career to understanding the human spirit and its capacity for resilience, I find it particularly heart-wrenching when that spirit is snuffed out in such a cruel and unexpected manner.
Authorities are sharing more details about Luigi Mangione‘s arrest.
On December 9th, authorities apprehended a 26-year-old individual on firearm charges in Altoona, PA. Following his arrest, they disclosed the items they seized from him. Notably, this individual is being considered a significant person of interest by the New York Police Department in relation to the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
In my line of work as a lifestyle expert, I found myself in an unexpected situation when authorities at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania recognized me. On this particular day, I was carrying a makeshift firearm, which matched the description of the weapon used in the tragic murder of Thompson, a fact that New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced during a press conference on December 9th.
Not only did Mangione possess what the NYPD claims led to his identification by a McDonald’s employee, but authorities also found several false identification cards among his belongings. One of these fake IDs was a counterfeit New Jersey driver’s license that matched the one used by the suspect in the Thompson murder case, as reported by the NYPD, when checking into a hostel in New York City prior to the crime.
Additionally, police revealed that a mask consistent with those worn by the shooting suspect and a three-page document allegedly written by Mangione were uncovered, the latter of which Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenney said “speaks to both” his “motivation and mindset.”
According to a report from CNN on December 9th, this is what the Maryland native apparently wrote in his lengthy essay: “These parasites deserved their fate.” I must express my regrets for any distress and pain caused, but I felt compelled to act.
As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t help but share this intriguing tidbit: During a recent press conference, Kenney hinted at some less-than-friendly feelings towards big business that Mangione apparently harbors, according to the undisclosed document. Fascinating stuff!
Five days ago, I was nabbed by the authorities, a situation that unfolded just five days after Thompson was hit with a bullet in his chest outside the New York Hilton hotel in Manhattan. This tragic incident took place as he was preparing to address an investor gathering, organized by UnitedHealth Group, the parent company of United Healthcare. As I stand accused, investigators have discovered three empty shell casings from the crime scene, which a senior official from the NYC law enforcement confided to NBC News, bore the words “deny,” “defend” and “depose.
Not long after, NBC News was informed by Thompson’s wife, Paulette Thompson, that her husband had been previously subjected to threats before his demise. She shared with the media outlet, “I’m not privy to the specifics. I merely know he mentioned there were individuals who had been making threats against him.
It appears that Mangione has not been officially accused regarding Thompson’s death. However, several authorities have suggested to NBC News that Mangione’s potential arrest might represent a significant development in the CEO’s investigation.
Regarding Thompson’s associates, including friends, colleagues, and family, it is hoped that the recent update in the investigation provides some comfort to those who have been impacted by this heart-wrenching event. UnitedHealthcare expressed this sentiment in a statement to NBC News on December 9th.
As a die-hard supporter, I want to express my gratitude to the diligent law enforcers who are tirelessly working on this case. Rest assured, we’re not only cooperating with them but also building upon our collaboration for a thorough investigation. In these trying times, let us all extend our utmost respect and understanding to the grieving family, allowing them the solace they deserve as they cope with their loss in private.

Brian Thompson served as the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, having initially joined the company back in 2004. Over the years, he held various positions within the company before ascending to the CEO role in 2021.
He was shot and killed in New York on Dec. 4, 2024. Thompson was 50 years old.
At precisely 6:46 a.m. on December 4, 2024, I was part of the patrol team from the New York City Police Department’s Midtown North Precinct who responded to a distressing incident outside the New York Hilton Midtown hotel. This information was shared later in a press briefing by NYPD Chief of Detectives, Joseph Kenny.
As per Kenny’s account, an unidentified shooter, who has not been apprehended yet, made his way to the New York Hilton Midtown on foot. He arrived outside the hotel five minutes ahead of Thompson’s arrival. In a video, it was observed that Thompson was walking alone towards the Hilton at 6:44 a.m., apparently heading for a UnitedHealth Group investors conference scheduled for 8 a.m. that day.
On December 4th, during a briefing, I relayed details about the suspect we’re seeking in New York. The individual in question seemed to be a man with lighter skin, donning a jacket that was either light brown or cream-colored, a black face mask, sneakers with black and white accents, and a very distinctive gray backpack.
Following the news of his tragic death due to gun violence, Brian’s family is deeply saddened and devastated. In a statement acquired by NBC affiliate KARE in Minneapolis on December 5th, they expressed their grief, saying: “Our dear Brian was a loving, generous, and exceptionally talented individual who embraced life fully and left an indelible mark on many hearts. Above all, he was a loving father to our two sons and his absence will be deeply felt. We welcome your sympathy and ask for privacy during this trying period as we navigate through our grief.
Paulette, Thompson’s wife, also mentioned that her husband had received threats. She explained to NBC News on December 5th that there had been some form of intimidation or lack of coverage, but she wasn’t aware of the specific details. All she knew was that he told her there were individuals who had been making threatening statements towards him.
UnitedHealth Group, the parent company of UnitedHealthcare, also expressed how it was “deeply saddened and shocked at the passing of our dear friend” Thompson, flying its flags at half-mast at corporate headquarters in Minnesota.
“Brian was a highly respected colleague and friend to all who worked with him,” a Dec. 4 statement from the organization read. “We are working closely with the New York Police Department and ask for your patience and understanding during this difficult time. Our hearts go out to Brian’s family and all who were close to him.”
And while the company noted “our hearts are broken,” it shared in a Dec. 5 statement that it has also “been touched by the huge outpouring of kindness and support in the hours since this horrific crime took place.”
“So many patients, consumers, health care professionals, associations, government officials and other caring people have taken time out of their day to reach out,” the message read. “We are thankful, even as we grieve. Our priorities are, first and foremost, supporting Brian’s family; ensuring the safety of our employees; and working with law enforcement to bring the perpetrator to justice. We, at UnitedHealth Group, will continue to be there for those who depend upon us for their health care. We ask that everyone respect the family’s privacy as they mourn the loss of their husband, father, brother and friend.”
