EastEnders’ Lacey Turner wants Stacey and Martin “together forever” amid Christmas romance twist

As someone who has been a part of EastEnders for over two decades, it’s safe to say that I’ve grown quite accustomed to the soap opera’s dramatic Christmas episodes. Each year, I eagerly await my turn to be a part of this festive tradition that seems to have become an integral part of many viewers’ holiday celebrations.

This holiday season, fan-favorite character Stacey Slater (played by Lacey Turner) in EastEnders discovers that her affection for former spouse Martin Fowler (portrayed by James Bye) has reignited strongly.

However, just like on Albert Square often happens, another character steps into the picture – her once closest friend, Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton), who also shares a past with Martin!

Following an unforeseen kiss from Martin, Stacey repeatedly tries to engage with him, yet Ruby’s persistent presence consistently hinders her efforts!

The actress also discusses Stacey’s wary feelings towards Ruby, and reveals her ideal EastEnders-themed Christmas dinner party guests!

In the following conversation, Turner discusses her delight in shooting during this particular season, and you can find the entire discussion below.

Have you been a part of some of the show’s most memorable Christmas Day plotlines such as ‘The Six’? If so, how does it make you feel to be included in this year’s holiday episode?

Participating in the holiday tale during Christmas is delightful, as EastEnders at Christmas has become a cherished tradition for many households. Being part of the Christmas special is always a privilege, as the episode tends to be filled with high-stakes drama and intense moments, which makes it something I eagerly anticipate each year.

Could we find out what’s causing the current change in the rollercoaster romance between Stacey and Martin?

It seems there’s a history of unrequited feelings between Martin and Stacey. They appear to be a pair who can’t seem to make things work when they’re together, yet they both desire their relationship. [Laughs] I guess you could say they’re one of those couples who, despite the odds, really want to be together.

Each attempt seems to fail, yet nothing ever sticks. It appears that witnessing Ruby with him might have led her to realize, “Ah, I certainly do have feelings for him, but perhaps I’ve waited just a tad too long.

Do you think Stacey is threatened by Ruby, and the fact that Martin has a new family?

I believe she’s not intimidated by him and quite empathetic towards his son Roman. However, I have the feeling she doesn’t fully trust Ruby. She seems cautious around her, suspecting that there might be hidden intentions or ulterior motives behind everything Ruby does.

Do you think it would work if Martin and Stacey got back together, and do you hope they do?

I’ve often imagined Martin and Stacey as a delightful elderly couple, but I must admit, I’m uncertain. My heart yearns for their relationship to last an eternity, yet the uncertainty lingers. Their interactions sometimes take unexpected turns, reminiscent of Ross and Rachel from ‘Friends’, so perhaps they share a similar complex dynamic.

How will you be spending your Christmas?

Ideally, lounging comfortably on a couch, far removed from any action as exciting as what’s happening in Albert Square!

What EastEnders character (past or present) would you invite to your Christmas dinner and why?

It’s essential for me to include Pat and Peggy in any gathering. They are truly iconic figures, and their chemistry is something I admire greatly. At our Christmas dinner, I’d even enjoy witnessing a friendly disagreement or two between them.

What is your favourite festive memory on set?

Year after year, there’s an enchanting sensation I get when approaching the Square for a nighttime photoshoot. The rich history seems to permeate the air, and I find myself utterly captivated by it.
