My Hero Academia: Mt. Lady’s Timeskip Design Hides a Tragic Easter Egg

As a die-hard fan who has followed the journey of My Hero Academia since its humble beginnings, I must say that the latest chapter 431 has truly left me in awe. The tribute Mt. Lady paid to her fallen friend Midnight in her new future costume is nothing short of heartwarming. It’s a testament to their bond and the enduring impact each character has on us, the audience.

In a surprising move, the popular series My Hero Academia has unveiled a fresh chapter post its original conclusion, which subtly honors Mt. Lady’s future hero outfit with a hidden homage to her deceased comrade Midnight. Despite concluding its run earlier this Summer in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, the series creator Kohei Horikoshi has pulled out all the stops for the launch of the final volume of the manga. Available now nationwide in Japan, this last volume boasts over 30 extra pages featuring a new story that takes place after the original ending and offers more insight into the time skip depicted therein.

In Japan, you can now find My Hero Academia Volume 42 on store shelves. This latest installment takes place approximately a month after the events of Chapter 430 and delves deeper into the time leap presented in the manga’s final chapter. Fans get a closer look at how the heroes have evolved, and what their world has transformed into following the battle against All For One. As for Mt. Lady, she remains an influential pro hero with a significant nod to Midnight hidden within her new equipment. Catch it as highlighted by @dinklebutton on X.

Mt. Lady Pays Tribute to Midnight With Her Future Costume

In Chapter 431 of “My Hero Academia,” set a month following Chapter 430’s events, we delve deeper into the lives of protagonist Izuku Midoriya and his fellow Class 1-A alumni in the future. This installment offers exciting insights into the evolving world of pro heroes. Fans are thrilled to discover the complete list of the new Top 10 heroes in the future, showcasing significant alterations compared to the original series. One striking development is Mt. Lady’s ascent to the Number 3 spot on the rankings. Additionally, we get a comprehensive look at her updated costume in the future, with noticeable modifications in the suit design. However, the most intriguing change is found in the mask she now wears over her eyes, hinting at an enigmatic secret.

Instead of having two sharp points at its base, this design resembles Midnight’s mask, recalling a change from the original character. Fans will remember that Midnight was the only major hero who sacrificed her life during battles against villains, making her one of the most significant losses on the hero side. Although her death wasn’t fully disclosed, all that remained afterward was her mask. Thus, it seems Mt. Lady is honoring her fallen comrade with a mask-inspired tribute.

Midnight Is Still One of My Hero Academia’s Worst Deaths

Apart from being scarcely outnumbered by victories on the hero side, Midnight’s demise was undeniably disheartening, even for Elizabeth Maxwell, who voices her in the anime. During DragonCon 2024 this past summer, Maxwell expressed her regret that the audience didn’t witness Midnight’s heroic final stand in the anime.

As a gamer, I can’t help but express my feelings about the recent episode. Despite my immense admiration for the creators who have taken us on this incredible journey, I was left a bit unsatisfied. We didn’t get to witness Midnight’s final stand, which is surprising given the intense battle scenes we’ve seen with our pro-heroes just a couple of episodes back.
