In a December 9 interview with The New York Times, R.J. Martin, the founder of the Hawaii co-living space where Mangione lived in 2022, stated that Mangione’s spine was slightly out of alignment. He described how his lower vertebrae were slightly misplaced by about half an inch, which possibly compressed a nerve.
His health issue eventually took a toll on his social interactions, with Martin noting that Mangione, who departed Hawaii in 2023, recognized that due to his back condition, romantic relationships and physical intimacy were not feasible for him.

He also graduated with honors from the University of Iowa in May 1997, majoring in accounting within the field of business administration for his Bachelor’s degree. This information was shared by Steve Schmadeke, the school’s public relations manager, to NBC News.
In Minnesota resided Thompson, who was wedded to Paulette Thompson (as per TopMob News’ examination of public records indicating that they had been dwelling separately for some time). He was also a proud parent of two boys.
He was shot and killed in New York on Dec. 4, 2024. Thompson was 50 years old.
At 6:46 a.m. on December 4, 2024, police officers from the New York City Police Department’s Midtown North Precinct rushed to a shooting incident outside the New York Hilton Midtown hotel, as confirmed by NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny during a press briefing later that day.

In the video, Kenny went on to say, Thompson was spotted strolling solo towards the Hilton at 6:44 in the morning, having left his own hotel nearby, presumably en route to a UnitedHealth Group investors meeting which was set to start at 8 a.m. that particular day.
The lead investigator mentioned that the gunman, who disregarded many bystanders, came up behind Thompson, fired at him, then walked closer while continuing to shoot.
Kenny reported that the armed individual initially escaped on foot, but later hopped onto an electric bike, while the shooter was spotted entering Central Park at Center Drive around 6:48 in the morning.
Kenny said three live nine-millimeter rounds and three discharged shell casings were recovered during the investigation. During a Dec. 6 press briefing, Kenny said the words “depose,” “delay” and “deny” were written on the shell casing in marker.
However, he’s noted the motive for the killing has yet to be confirmed.
At a news conference held on December 6th, Kenny stated that the investigators possess video evidence showing the gunman’s arrival at Port Authority in New York City on the evening of November 24th.
Kenny added, “I think the bus started in Atlanta. It makes multiple stops, so it’s uncertain where exactly he boarded.
Following the arrival of the gunman at Port Authority, Kenny went on to say, the shooter hailed a taxi and headed towards the neighborhood of the Hilton hotel. He stayed there approximately thirty minutes before taking another taxi to a hostel situated on the Upper West Side.

On December 6th, I, a devoted fan of the news, shared that investigators suspected the gunman had departed New York City, as they’d spotted him at Port Authority, according to Kenny’s interview with CNN.
At the December 4th press conference, Kenny stated that the suspect seemed to be a man with fair skin, who was wearing a jacket of a light brown or cream color, a black and white pair of sneakers, a black face mask, and a distinctive gray backpack. In the following days, the NYPD published a sequence of photos depicting the person they were searching for, where the individual’s face was hidden by a mask in most of the images.
On December 5th, a senior police officer informed NBC News that images showing an unmasked face originated from security cameras at an Upper West Side lodging house. Furthermore, two different law enforcement sources indicated to the outlet that detectives are working to ascertain whether the person involved used a counterfeit ID and cash to secure a room in the hostel.

On December 9th, the Altoona Police Department in Pennsylvania took Luigi Mangione into custody for firearm-related offenses. As per records obtained by NBC News, the charges include two felonies – one forgery charge and one unlicensed firearm possession charge, along with three misdemeanors: tampering with records or identification, possessing tools used in a crime, and giving false identification to law enforcement officers.
