As a mother who has walked the same heart-wrenching path as Mary Cosby, I can only sympathize with her struggle and pain. The fear of losing a child to substance abuse is a nightmare that haunts countless families worldwide.

Mary Cosby continues to struggle with her son Robert Jr.‘s substance abuse.
In a heart-to-heart conversation on an episode of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” that aired on November 27, the pastor initially discussed the 21-year-old’s drug issues with him. Later, she decided to share her own personal family struggles with fellow cast member Angie Katsanevas.
Mary shared with her friend during the December 11th episode of Bravo, “He confessed to me, ‘Mom, I used drugs.’ He said something like, ‘Yes, I gave it a go, here and there, I’ve experimented with this, I’ve tried that.’
Subsequently, Angie was made aware of the assortment of drugs Robert Jr. had taken, which encompassed heroin, Xanax, and LSD. She also recounted him stating, “After that, I experimented with more substances, and then I delved into more substances. At some stage, he admitted it had nearly turned into an addiction.
“I said ‘not almost,'” Mary continued, “and he’s like ‘yeah. yeah, it’s addiction, mom.'”
But the tragic revelations didn’t stop there.
Mary remembered him saying, “‘Mom, there was a time when I didn’t feel like living,'” and she added, “‘It was your love that kept me going. He once told me, ‘Mom, I felt like an unwanted blemish.’
In a confessional, Mary broke down reflecting on her only child’s depression.
What crucial details have I overlooked or misunderstood that led him to such a desperate state? Where did I fail to support him and make him feel valued? And appreciated? Who is responsible for this situation if not me?
When Mary shared with Angie that she felt accountable for Robert Jr.’s difficulties, Angie made an effort to console her friend and help alleviate her sorrow.
She tried to console Mary by saying, “Even though you did everything correctly, it could still happen to anyone,” emphasizing that the situation wasn’t Mary’s fault due to the nature of addiction as a genuine illness or affliction.
However, Mary remained heartbroken by the gut-wrenching situation.
She admitted, “It’s incredibly tough… as a parent, you often feel like you’ve fallen short. Yet, if he approaches me for assistance, it’s my duty to provide it. Whatever measures I need to take, I will.
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Bravo.
