Alright, me hearties, I’ve been sailin’ the seas of Path of Exile for quite some time now, and let me tell ye, the Trial of the Sekhemas is as treacherous as the Bermuda Triangle! But fear not, for I’ve braved its stormy waters to bring you a guide that’ll make ye a seasoned sailor in no time.
In the second act of the primary storyline for Path of Exile 2, you’ll encounter an opportunity called “Ascent to Power” quest. To fulfill this mission, you need to successfully pass through the Trial of the Sekhemas.
The Trial of Sekhemas can be described as a game mode similar to roguelikes, where you face various randomized obstacles and finally confront a powerful enemy at the end. Completing the entire journey in one attempt yields substantial rewards. Additionally, successfully finishing this trial allows for the unlocking and enhancement of your character’s Ascendancy!
In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know to clear the Trial of the Sekhemas.
Guide to Trial of the Sekhemas | Ascent to Power
In my excitement for Path of Exile 2, let me share that during Act 2’s main campaign, I’ll be tackling the intriguing Trial of the Sekhemas. This trial bears a resemblance to a roguelike mode, as it takes me through a sequence of eight nodes, each with unique and randomly generated challenges. Reaching the final 9th node will grant me the opportunity to engage in a thrilling showdown against the Trial’s ultimate boss!
Keep in mind that for every trial with Sekhemas, you’ll require a single Balbala’s Barya. These items can be obtained randomly from defeating opponents or opening loot boxes.
As you advance through the Trial, you’ll find opportunities to collect Relics at the beginning of each stage. Each Relic offers a distinct advantage, designed to ease your journey in the Trial of the Sekhemas. Feel free to choose the one that appeals to you the most!
During this Trial, remember to prioritize your integrity or dignity, for this serves as another form of health meter. Any hits will lower this value, and if it reaches zero, you’ll automatically lose the Trial.
As a fellow enthusiast, I must clarify that just like you, I can’t redeem Honor through consumables. Instead, the path to restoration lies in successfully completing nodes specifically designated for Honor recovery.
Some nodes will provide you with keys that have different levels of rarity: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. These keys can be utilized to unlock treasure chests once you’ve successfully conquered the final boss in the Trial. Aim to collect as many keys as you can to maximize your loot!
In addition, you may acquire Sacred Water by completing specific tasks at certain locations. These tasks often involve clearing nodes. As an alternative, you can use the Sacred Water to barter with merchants just prior to facing the boss. You can also exchange any remaining Sacred Water for keys.
Types of Trials
At present, there are five distinct trials that could potentially show up as points during each trial session in the Trial of the Sekhemas. Here’s a quick overview of each trial:
- Chalice Trial – Fight against hordes of rare enemies to fill a chalice. Pretty straightforward, but fairly challenging.
- Escape Trial – Find and disable all of the Death Crystals in a room to escape within the time limit. Pay attention to the rays of light that shoot out of each Death Crystal once you disable them, as they lead to the next crystal.
- Gauntlet Trial – Navigate through a maze full of traps looking for levers. Use the levers to open doors and find a way to the exit. The maze has many traps, but few enemies. That makes it easy to avoid taking damage, but it does take a lot longer to clear than other nodes on average.
- Ritual Trial – Hunt down the Lich Summoners opening portals to stop them from calling enemies. As a nice tip, you can focus fire on Lich Summoners to kill them. This will also instantly kill all of their summons once their portal closes! That makes this possibly the easiest trial.
- Hourglass Trial – A timed survival challenge. Activate the hourglass and hordes of enemies will appear to attack you. Fend them off and survive until the time runs out to complete the trial. This is all about survival!
It’s generally best to opt for the Ritual Trial when feasible, as it tends to be the most straightforward option. However, the suitability of this choice can vary based on the specific random attributes of the node and your individual preferences.
Regardless of the route we take, it’s down to discussing the last significant hurdle – the ultimate adversary in the Trial of Sekhemas!
Trial of the Sekhemas Final Boss: Rattlecage, the Earthbreaker
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share my experience with you: Rattlecage, the colossal stone titan, stands as the climactic hurdle in mastering the Sekhemas Trial within Path of Exile 2. He may lumber about at a leisurely pace, but beware his potent blows and cunning maneuvers. It’s crucial to remain vigilant, monitoring both your Health and Honor, focusing on evasion rather than confrontation. Let prudence guide your actions!
Keep an eye out for his powerful opening move called the Fire Slam Attack. Upon impact, the ground ignites, and small volcanoes appear where the flame trails come to a stop.
Beware! These volcanoes are likely to erupt and spew flames around them, posing a significant risk if you’re not careful. As the battle continues, the boss may also summon more of these dangerous volcanoes. Neglecting them could lead to the loss of your Honour.
Whenever Rattlecage assumes a four-legged stance and starts quivering, be prepared for a series of shockwave explosions emanating from his position. These waves grow larger with each detonation, making it crucial to swiftly distance yourself when you spot him adopting this posture.
As the battle continues, keep an eye out for whirling patterns in the air above the arena. These areas indicate that fiery debris is about to rain down, so it’s best to avoid them.
Apart from his slow, heavy attacks that are relatively easy to dodge, what makes battling Rattlecage particularly tough is the onslaught of falling rocks and volcanic eruptions. Towards the end of the fight, these hazards become increasingly prevalent, filling a significant portion of the arena. To add, Rattlecage boasts an enormous Health reserve, making it a test of endurance rather than quick reflexes!
Rewards and Ascendancy
To move forward, first, conquer the towering Rattlecage. This action will reveal a chamber that houses numerous treasure chests and rewards. These chests can be unlocked with any keys you’ve collected throughout your journey. However, what makes this room special is that you can also activate the Altar of Ascendancies, which grants you an opportunity to learn an Ascendancy within the chamber.
In our beginner’s manual, we explained that Ascendancy functions similarly to a specialized aspect of the character class you selected at the beginning of the game. It serves to refine your gameplay approach and enhances your character’s overall power.
Now, in addition, you’ll encounter Djinn Baryas as random discoveries across the world. These encounters will give you the opportunity to engage with tougher versions of the Trial of the Sekhemas. Notably, these challenging trials offer superior rewards such as Ascendancy Skill Points. This is the sole method to further enhance your Ascendancy’s power!
But well, that’s all you need to know about the Trial of the Sekhemas in Path of Exile 2. It’s an extremely hard challenge, but it’s well worth conquering it for your Ascendancy. We wish you the best of luck with the trials!
