As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of racing game experience under my belt, from the classic days of OutRun to the futuristic thrills of Wipeout, I must say that the unveiling of Screamer by Milestone at The Game Awards has truly caught my eye. The fusion of neon-lit aesthetics with a dark cyberpunk world is a visual feast, and the blend of 3D vehicles with 2D characters offers an intriguing twist to the genre.
At The Game Awards, the development team behind the popular title “Hot Wheels Unleashed” unveiled their upcoming racer. Named “Screamer”, this new game draws inspiration from a well-known 1995 racing game of the same name. You can view the trailer for it below.
The trailer of the game “Screamer” showcases its distinctive artistic flair, combining vibrant neon lights with a grittier cyberpunk motif to create its environment. Moreover, it appears that the game features a blend of 3D vehicles and 2D characters, leading to an exceptionally unique visual style.
In regards to the upcoming game Screamer, we didn’t see much gameplay yet, but the developers have promised an adrenaline-pumping racing experience with intricate game mechanics. What sets Screamer apart from other racing games is its narrative, which draws inspiration from 80s and 90s anime and manga, including complex character development. The story will revolve around themes such as revenge, love, greed, human resolve, and classic sci-fi elements.
Screamer is slated for release in 2026, and will be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
