As a longtime Marvel fan and comic book enthusiast who has seen his fair share of superhero movies, I must say that the return of The Leader in “Captain America: Brave New World” is an exciting prospect. Having grown up reading about this character, it’s thrilling to see him finally receive the screen time he deserves.
In a closer examination of the movie “Captain America: Brave New World“, it hints that an unseen antagonist is manipulating events from behind the scenes. This film marks Sam Wilson’s debut as Captain America in cinemas, and he will be accompanied by Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who goes by Red Hulk. While we have already glimpsed Captain America engaging with Red Hulk, less attention has been given to the hidden villain causing their confrontation. The character known as Leader, last seen in 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk“, is orchestrating things from the shadows in the special look of “Captain America: Brave New World“.
In a sneak peek at “Captain America: Brave New World,” Harrison Ford’s character Thaddeus Ross, who serves as the U.S. President in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, acknowledges Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie) for his good deeds, despite his usual skepticism of heroes. Ross urges Captain America to join forces with him, and we see a sequence featuring Captain America and Falcon on a naval ship, accompanied by fighter jets as they confront Tiamut, the Celestial from “Eternals.” The narrative swiftly cuts to multiple scenes, where Sam suggests that an unseen force controls everything. Although he’s not visible, the voice of the Leader can be heard saying, “Captain America, you have no idea what this is.

Tim Blake Nelson takes on the role of Samuel Stern, more famously known as The Leader, in “Captain America: Bold New World.” He was among the original cast members when the movie’s title, previously “Captain America: New World Order,” was initially revealed in 2022. The character, The Leader, has been kept under wraps during the promotions for “Captain America: Bold New World.” However, Nelson has shared insights about how The Leader will sport a comics-true appearance in the film.
In response to being asked about reprising his role as Samuel Sterns/The Leader in “Captain America: Brave New World” back in March, Nelson expressed enthusiasm. He shared, “I’m really excited. I had a great time filming it,” he told ComicBookMovie.com. “I also had the pleasure of working with the Marvel team and this fantastic makeup artist named David Atherton whom I’ve collaborated on over a dozen films now.
He expressed that people are likely going to be quite thrilled with this individual’s appearance. Not only his words, but also his actions. He also praised the fantastic Marvel team. Although Nelson didn’t explicitly mention it, it seems obvious that his character might end up with a large head and green skin based on his comments.
Captain America: Brave New World opens in theaters on February 14, 2025.
