Dragon Ball Daima Gives Namekians and Kais a Surprising Connection

As a long-time enthusiast of Dragon Ball series, I find myself absolutely captivated by the recent revelations in Dragon Ball Daima. The connections between the Namekians and Kais have always been intriguing, but this latest arc has truly brought these links to light in an unprecedented way.

In Dragon Ball Daima, we’re consistently hit with substantial backstory reveals that are dramatically reshaping our understanding of the universe and characters. A large portion of these groundbreaking disclosures revolve around the beginnings of Namekians and Kais. As the story unfolds, it’s increasingly clear just how intricately linked these two species are. In episode 10, we learn that the Namekians’ original home planet in the Demon Realm is a relatively compact planet, approachable by air, much like King Kai’s planet at the end of Snake Way in Dragon Ball Z.

In Dragon Ball Z, Goku, Shin (Supreme Kai), Panzy, and Glorio discovered the ancient homeworld of the Namekians floating above the oceans of the Second Demon World. Interestingly, this planet isn’t as small as King Kai’s planet, which is so tiny that one can run across it in mere minutes. However, like King Kai’s planet, the Namekian homeworld is easily accessible. This could be a subtle nod to the resemblance between Kais and Namekians, a connection further explored in Dragon Ball Daima. In Dragon Ball Z, King Kai’s planet shrank due to the intense gravity, enabling Goku to train harder to face the Saiyans. While the Namekian homeworld presents a welcoming and familiar sight, it sets the stage for revealing shared struggles between the Namekians and the Glind, another inhabitants of the Second Demon World.

The Namekians and Kais Are Connected in Multiple Ways

In addition to revealing that Namekians hail from the Demon Realm and dwelled in the Second Demon World, just like the Supreme Kais did, it’s also disclosed that the true species name for Kais is Glind. These ethereal beings were born from trees within the Second Demon World. As a means of escaping the oppressive demon monarchy, both the Glind and Namekians chose to depart from their original realm. The Glind went on to establish the celestial hierarchy of the Kais, consisting of King Kai and the Supreme Kais. Conversely, the Namekians settled on planets located in Universes 7 and 6. Beyond this common trait, they share an unusual ability to live on water and fluids without requiring food.

In the Dragon Ball universe, it was discovered that Namekians and Glind are ancient entities, sharing ties with demons and other primordial beings. Although Namekians were often portrayed as a common species, their association with divination dates back to the beginning of the series. The initial Namekians we encounter in the story are Demon King Piccolo and Kami, who some interpret as representing Satan and God respectively. Kami was the first divine figure introduced in the franchise, paving the way for a hierarchy that includes King Kai, Supreme Kais, Gods of Destruction, Angels, the Grand Minister, and Zeno.

In this universe, only the Namekians possess the ability to create Dragon Balls, implying a unique divine-like power that sets them apart from other mortal species. However, it’s important to note that while the Glind and Namekians were among the first species to emerge after the exodus from the Demon Realm, not all species share this origin. Subsequent races like humans and Saiyans appeared later, emphasizing the exceptional status of Namekians and Glind. In essence, they are beings that are nearly divine but do not hold deity status in the same way as Angels, the Grand Minister, or Zeno, as portrayed in Dragon Ball Super.
