Based on a True Story stars Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina: ‘There’s a little too much improvising’

As a seasoned movie buff with a penchant for dark thrillers and a soft spot for witty humor, I must say that Based on a True Story has managed to strike a perfect balance between the two, keeping me hooked from start to finish. The chemistry between Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina is palpable, their improvisational skills adding an extra layer of authenticity to the characters they portray.

Actors Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina have expressed that one challenge they’ve encountered in the latest season of “Based on a True Story,” their suspenseful drama, is an occasional excess of spontaneous acting.

In the second run of the Peacock show, we find ourselves a year later, with Nathan (Messina) and Ava (Cuoco) endeavoring to establish a new chapter in their lives as inexperienced but upstanding parents. They’ve left behind their old roles as true crime podcast hosts who were involved with a genuine killer, Matt (Tom Bateman), in their previous existence.

The pair play a crucial role in setting the mood for the eight-episode show, as it swiftly shifts from lighthearted humor to dark and somber moments without warning.

According to the actress from The Big Bang Theory, Chris and I never seem to run out of things to say, it’s quite obvious. However, it can be a challenge because we just keep improvising ideas, and at times, there may be a bit too much improvisation.

Messina commended his fellow actors’ skills, stating they were exceptional at discovering humor in a scene by creatively working with the lines provided in the script.

The actor shared with us that they enjoy taking the scripted parts and adding their unique touch. They explained that this approach allows them to stay true to the original writing while also allowing for some improvisation. In their opinion, it’s through these spontaneous moments that the genuine chemistry between the characters is created.

The second series maintains the same level of unexpected plots and dramatic shifts as the initial one, and the pair hinted that it ends on a tantalizing cliffhanger, ideal for setting up the next installment.

Cuoco mentioned that we’re eager to conclude a third season, wrapping it up neatly, though not necessarily perfectly, because now in television, due to streaming, there can be long gaps between seasons and shows may not always return.

Starting December 16th, you can stream all episodes of Season 2 for the series titled “Based on a True Story” on both Sky and NOW platforms.
