Interestingly, Thrustmaster has opted to reintroduce its popular budget option, the T.Flight Hotas One, in a collaboration for the series. I had the opportunity to test one out and share my thoughts on it as the potential best value flight stick for MSFS 2024 – thus, here are my impressions of the Hotas One Microsoft Flight Simulator Edition.

Additionally, if you make your purchase prior to Christmas, you’ll benefit from extended holiday returns that last until January 31st.
Thrustmaster offers a one-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription as part of the package, granting access to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on both PC and Xbox Series X|S. The throttle and joystick can be easily attached using the provided hex key, with no additional tools needed for setup.
T.Flight Hotas One: Setup and features
As a researcher exploring the T.Flight Hotas One, I found it incredibly user-friendly straight out of the box, offering quick connectivity to both PC and Xbox Series X|S for instant gameplay if you’re eager to dive in. The joystick and throttle modules are individually mounted, connected via a sturdy cable that neatly stores any excess length within a hollow channel. You can position each module at a distance to mimic a realistic cockpit layout or secure them together using the provided hex key for a compact setup.
The hex key comes with its own storage compartment, reducing the likelihood of misplacing another specialized tool amidst the pile of identical tools included with flat-packed Swedish furniture. However, the flight stick features a dial marked “joystick resistance” that presents an issue, as it’s effortlessly turned and can get stuck like a stubborn pickle jar lid. In essence, this dial has minimal effect on overall performance, so I usually keep it slightly more than halfway tightened.
The T.Flight Hotas One’s USB-A cable is approximately 6.56 feet (2 meters) long and is permanently attached to the device. This cable resembles the quick-release system found on Microsoft’s wired Xbox controllers. The length of the cord is fairly standard compared to similar products, but it may initially seem limiting. However, this can easily be addressed with a USB extension cable, and it doesn’t significantly impact its overall rating.
The joystick and throttle smoothly adjust along their axis, while the throttle locks at its center to prevent unintentional activation of reverse thrust.
The T.Flight Hotas One’s plastic casing seems delicate, so if it falls from a certain height, parts like the joystick wrist rest could shatter or detach entirely. However, the joystick and throttle operate smoothly along their axes, and the throttle can lock into its midpoint to prevent accidental reverse thrust activation.

This accessory is optional, since the throttle comes with an analog rocker switch that can manage your virtual plane’s rudder. However, you could also consider binding the rocker to the elevator trim control, like I have, and using a twist of the joystick for rudder control instead.
To prevent potential long-term wear on your joystick and lessen the chances of stick drift, Thrustmaster gives you the option to completely disable the twist axis by tightening a flathead screw found at its base. Whether you choose to do this is up to you, but for a budget flight stick under $100, it’s unlikely that you’ll encounter significant issues in the long run if you take good care of it. The device should last for years with proper handling.
T.Flight Hotas One: Drivers and software
Instead of diving straight into Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and flying any plane you like, it would be wise to first install the dedicated T.Flight Hotas One Microsoft Flight Simulator Edition driver provided by Thrustmaster. This driver also includes a control panel application for enhanced gaming experience.
You can utilize the “5/8 Axis Mode” to independently assign the rocker switch for throttle and the twist axis for joystick to distinct functions such as elevator pitch control. T.Flight Hotas One: Gameplay & testing
Essentially, this flight stick maintains the fundamental structure of Thrustmaster’s standard T.Flight Hotas One, but gives it a new look with a special edition Microsoft Flight Simulator label and a fresh coat of paint. The compatibility remains consistent with games like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and various other simulators (mainly on PC), while the list is quite short for Xbox, with only Star Wars: Squadrons and War Thunder being officially confirmed as compatible, along with Microsoft’s own title on Xbox Series X|S. In summary, the options are rather limited in this case.
It’s unlikely that someone would buy a flight stick labeled with MSFS 2024 and anticipate a wide range of Xbox-compatible experiences. This isn’t necessarily acceptable from peripheral manufacturers or Microsoft, as broader compatibility should always be a focus for them in consideration of the players. However, it’s clear who the intended market is, and even if they are only somewhat satisfied, Flight Simulator 2024 fans will likely appreciate this dual-platform offering.
In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, the T.Flight Hotas One controller is recognized correctly on PC, but its default control settings don’t align with Thrustmaster’s suggestions as indicated in the product packaging and user manual. However, it’s a relief that there are some pre-defined settings, even if they aren’t ideal, preventing you from dealing with a multitude of unassigned inputs upon launching the game. You have the flexibility to assign each axis and button to your preferred functions, either by selecting physical inputs or choosing specific game functions.
Crucially, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 plays well with the T.Flight Hotas One, as it should.
Previously, I discussed using the app control panel to adjust the “5/8 Axis Mode” with some modifications based on the suggested bindings. Specifically, since Thrustmaster’s recommendation leaves three unassigned buttons, I adapted additional functions from keys that were convenient for me to use temporarily. It’s important to note that personalized settings are essential when it comes to simulation accessories, and there are numerous digital and analog inputs available here. Importantly, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is compatible with the T.Flight Hotas One, which is great to see.
T.Flight Hotas One: The competition
As an analyst, I find myself in a unique position where I’m recommending products from the same brand – Thrustmaster. For those on a tight budget, I often suggest the standard T. Flight Hotas One due to its affordability and reliable performance. However, if you’re open to forgoing the Xbox Series X|S and embracing a PC-only option, the T.Flight Hotas X is another solid choice, priced at $69.99 on Amazon. Both offer similar experiences, but unlike the limited edition Microsoft Flight Simulator version, neither features an all-white color scheme nor overt branding.
To this day, my preferred flight stick for Microsoft Flight Simulator is still the VelocityOne Flightdeck by Turtle Beach. However, it’s in a league of its own when it comes to extended functionality and comes with a significantly higher price tag compared to other models. If you’re considering the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas One due to its high visibility in search engine results for flight sticks, but have some extra budget, you might want to explore the T.Flight Hotas One as a more comprehensive option.
