Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Starts Final Arc

As someone who’s been following the adventures of Bell Cranel and his Hestia Familia for quite some time now, I must say that the news of the final arc in “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” has left me with a mix of excitement and a tinge of melancholy. After all, it’s been a wild ride through the world of adventurers and their divine companions, filled with action, humor, and a fair share of tongue-in-cheek moments that have kept us hooked.

The Hestia Familia will be heading to the sunset soon. Author Fujin Omori announced that his popular Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, also known as DanMachi, light novel series will be starting its final arc. Anime News Network discovered the series’ endpoint within DanMachi‘s 20th volume, where Omori reveal the last arc will officially begin in earnest with volume 21. The 20th volume launched in Japan on December 15, centering on a conflict with the School District. While the DanMachi novels explore the ongoing adventures of Bell Cranel and the Hestia Familia, each novel generally covers one story arc.

Though certain plotlines persist across multiple books, readers are optimistic that this won’t be the last installment of the series and instead, the climax will span several volumes. The world depicted in the story, where adventurers form alliances with deities to create groups called Familia, offers ample room for further exploration. Despite the playful tone suggested by its title, the narrative primarily follows a serious action trajectory with humorous interludes scattered throughout.

When Can Fans Read the Final DanMachi Light Novels?

In Japan, SB Creative is responsible for publishing the popular light novels, often releasing one or two volumes per year. Yen Press, on the other hand, handles the distribution of these books in the United States. Currently, Yen Press has made volume 19 of DanMachi available in English, but there’s no news about when the 20th volume will be released stateside. Typically, Yen Press publishes a light novel a year after it’s been published in Japan, so eager English-speaking fans might have to wait a full year for an official translation of what Omori wrote.

DanMachi has built a substantial fanbase and continues to run as a popular anime for several seasons. So far, it consists of five seasons, featuring 67 episodes, three Original Video Animations (OVAs), a movie, and an additional series centered around Oratoria. The fifth season is currently being broadcasted on Tokyo MX, with the first episode airing on October 5th, 2024, and the finale scheduled for December 24th. This season adapts the Goddess of Fertility arc from the light novel series starting with volume 15.
