Rumour: The Far Cry Series May Finally Be Switching Things Up in Next Two Games

As someone who’s spent countless hours exploring the lush jungles and sprawling islands of Far Cry, the news about Ubisoft shaking things up with their next two titles has me absolutely thrilled! The idea of a time limit in Blackbird to rescue my kidnapped family from a sinister cult is not only intriguing but also adds a sense of urgency that’s been missing in previous games.

For quite some time now, Ubisoft’s action-packed open world shooter series, Far Cry, has been following a similar path since its breakout hit, Far Cry 3, released in 2012. However, recent rumors suggest that the upcoming installments might be shaking things up a bit.

According to Insider Gaming, it’s believed that there are two new Far Cry games being worked on at the moment. One of them is tentatively called Far Cry 7, known internally as ‘Blackbird’, while the other goes by the code name ‘Maverick’.

Based on the latest findings, it appears that both games are now being developed using the Snowdrop engine instead of the Dunia engine. The lead for this development is currently at Ubisoft Montreal.

In a surprising twist, Blackbird appears to be the upcoming primary game, deviating from the standard Far Cry structure by imposing a time limit on players. The storyline allegedly revolves around a player rescuing their kidnapped family from a secretive cult, with only 24 real-world hours (or 72 in-game hours) to accomplish this mission.

In another title named “Maverick,” it’s said that the action unfolds amidst the treacherous Alaskan wilderness, where gamers must fight not only their opponents but also nature and its resident wildlife in order to stay alive.

In addition to these intriguing ideas, it seems that the movement mechanics in both games have undergone significant changes, offering you a wider variety of movements. There are rumors that these two games share certain gameplay aspects since they originated from the same initial project.

It’s yet unclear whether the report is correct or not, but if it is, we welcome the Far Cry series venturing into something new. So far, fresh locations and innovative gameplay elements have been maintaining the series. However, this seems to suggest an attempt to explore some daring concepts – if that’s the case.
