Bluey Creator Announces He’s Stepping Away From the Series

As a seasoned movie reviewer with a penchant for animated masterpieces, I must say, the news about the upcoming Bluey feature-length film has left me positively giddy! However, the bittersweet tidings surrounding the departure of Joe Brumm from the series have cast a slight shadow over this momentous occasion.

On Tuesday morning, a momentous announcement was made: Disney, BBC, and Ludo Studio are collaborating for a full-length Bluey film! Expected to hit cinemas worldwide in 2027, this movie is shaping up to be one of the most monumental box office debuts ever, given the immense popularity of the series. However, the overall news about Bluey on Tuesday was somewhat mixed. The press release focused on positivity, but the reality carried a touch of sweet and sour emotions.

The creator of Bluey, Joe Brumm, recently shared a message stating his temporary departure from the series. He mentioned that he hasn’t prepared any ideas for the show beyond Season 3, as he’s now focusing on the upcoming movie (which he both wrote and will direct).

In a statement, Brumm explained that he’s been consistent about only continuing with a new season of ‘Bluey’ if he believes it can match or surpass the quality of the previous one. Since he wasn’t confident about a potential season four, he decided to step back from the TV series for now. He also mentioned that if he finds it difficult to create more seasons himself, then ‘The Sign’ will serve as his final episode for ‘Bluey.’ He wrote the script with this intention in mind.

Watching Bluey has had a profound impact on my life. It’s been incredibly rewarding to be involved in something so fulfilling, and words can hardly express the extent of this feeling. Leaving it behind while it’s still popular might seem strange, but for now, I struggle to reconnect deeply with that world of four to six-year-olds and write honestly from that perspective.

The creator of Bluey stated that the people associated with the show have backed his choice to depart. He further clarified that this doesn’t imply the end of the Bluey series, but rather that he won’t participate if it carries on.

Brumm expressed that his “Bluey” team and creative companions fully grasp his choice. He’s delighted to have collaborated with such an exceptional bunch, as working together has been the pinnacle of his animation journey. He hopes that “Bluey” will serve as a source of pride on their resumes for them.

Just wanted to clarify, I’m not announcing the end of our beloved show, but I must share that my attention will shift towards the realm of films.

In simpler terms, it’s uncertain where the future of the Bluey series is heading. From Brumm’s letter, it seems there might be room for the show to carry on even without him, but as of now, a fourth season hasn’t been announced. Brumm is presently working on the movie, which isn’t due until 2027. This means that if the series were to resume before then, a fourth season would likely be produced without its creator.
