Oh, the loss of Diane Delano, a luminary who graced our screens and our hearts for over four decades, is truly heart-wrenching. As a child of Hollywood, she was not just a product of her environment, but its most vibrant and vivacious embodiment.
Hollywood is mourning one of their own.
It has been confirmed by Dennis Sevier, her representative, that Diane Delano, famously known for portraying Officer Barbara Semanski in the TV show ‘Northern Exposure‘, passed away on December 13 following a short period of illness. She was 67 years old.
In a December 16th statement, the representative explained that whenever Diane walked into a room, it was impossible not to notice her presence. She was vibrant and passionate about acting. Her absence will be deeply felt.
TopMob News reached out to her rep for comment but has not heard back.
Originally from Los Angeles, she gained widespread recognition for her role in a CBS drama-comedy series that aired from 1990 to 1995. Following her successful stint on the Emmy-winning show “Northern Exposure“, she continued to secure roles in various other productions such as “Popular“, “Days of Our Lives“, “Pen15“, and “Perfect Strangers“.
Apart from her appearances on TV, Diane has also starred in motion pictures such as The Wicker Man, Miracle Mile, The Ladykillers, and more recently, Paradise: A Town of Sinners and Saints.
According to Stepfanie Kramer, she was both large in stature and full of courage, and she consistently showcased her quick, clever humor and impeccable comedic timing in every role. Her unique, down-to-earth, and boisterous personality allowed her to command any space she entered. Truly, she was extraordinary and incomparable.
Diane’s long-standing career spanning over 4 decades in Hollywood, which stretches back to her work as a voiceover artist, is a testament to her skills. Notable roles under this category include those in ‘Rugrats’, ‘Lego Star Wars’, ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’, ‘Teen Titans’, and ‘Ben 10’.
And it turns out, she had her sights set on fulfilling these dreams from a very young age.
According to Rick Sparks, it was preordained that Diane would flourish in the world of entertainment. He mentioned this to Deadline. It’s worth noting that their grandfather, Myrtland Vivian LaVarre, was a New York stage actor who, persuaded by Cecil B. DeMille, changed his name to ‘John Merton’, relocated his wife Esther and their six children to Hollywood. Over time, the entire family became established professionals within the studio system. Uncle Lane Bradford frequently took Diane and other cousins to film sets with him.
In my professional opinion, while her genetic predisposition certainly played a role, I’m convinced that those initial studio visits truly ignited Diane’s passion for a career in this field.
