Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Toys Confirmed for McDonald’s in North America

As a child of the ’90s, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia with the news that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 toys are hitting McDonald’s! Growing up, those Happy Meals were like gold to me, and now, here we are, reliving those memories. It’s fascinating to see how these promotions have evolved over time, from simple figurines to interactive rolling toys.

Based on recent revelations, it’s now officially announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 toys will hit North American stores. These toys showcase the four principal characters from the movie, including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow. Each Happy Meal includes a non-posable figure, along with a clippable plastic ring for the figure to roll on surfaces. Additionally, there are stickers provided for decorating the ring. While the McDonald’s website hasn’t specified a launch date yet, these toys should start appearing in participating stores as early as this week, if not today.

To generate excitement for their promotional event, McDonald’s has broadcasted an advertisement showcasing Sonic and his companions delivering Happy Meals to children who are eagerly waiting. Significantly, the commercial does not showcase the actual toys themselves. Remarkably, it seems that the North American promotion deviates slightly from what is offered in other parts of the world. In contrast to the 12 toys given elsewhere, North America will only receive 8. Each character is receiving two figures, with two for Tails and two for Knuckles. Unlike other regions where there are two standard versions of Sonic and Shadow, as well as their Super forms, the North American promotion appears to be offering just one standard Sonic figure, a Super form, and one standard Shadow, also accompanied by a Super form.

The timing of our promotion aligns perfectly with the upcoming cinema release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, happening this week. This eagerly awaited sequel primarily revolves around Shadow the Hedgehog, who was subtly introduced at the end of the previous Sonic film. With Shadow featuring prominently in promotional materials like merchandise, video games, and now this Happy Meal offer, it’s clear that Paramount and Sega are hyping him up significantly. It will be intriguing to observe if the audience takes a liking to the character once the movie is out. In Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Shadow will be voiced by the talented Keanu Reeves.

After McDonald’s revealed their Sonic promotion, it leaves us curious as to whether they will officially announce a Pokemon Trading Card Game promotion for North America soon. The yearly Pokemon TCG promotion was launched in other regions earlier this year, marking the Year of the Dragon. Despite the fact that the Year of the Dragon is nearing its end, we haven’t seen this promotion here yet. Since McDonald’s has a history of distributing Pokemon cards without needing a specific reason, it’s possible that when the promotion does arrive in North America, it might be slightly altered. Fingers crossed we’ll get our hands on those cards next month or perhaps in February, to coincide with Pokemon Day.
