As an avid manga enthusiast with over three decades of reading under my belt, I must say that witnessing the 50th anniversary celebration of Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine is like observing a grandmaster at work, effortlessly creating timeless stories that captivate generations. The new editions of beloved series such as Beck, Your Lie in April, and Noragami are not mere reprints but a testament to the enduring power of these narratives.

This year, I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of a special occasion! The legendary monthly publication, Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine, is turning 50! You know, the one that brought us classics like Noragami, Beck (Mongolian Chop Squad), Seraph of the End, and Your Lie in April. To mark this impressive milestone, Japanese fans are being showered with fresh editions of their favorite tales from the magazine’s illustrious history. What a fantastic way to celebrate such an iconic part of manga culture!

1964 saw the debut of the magazine, which initially came out four times a year. In 1969, it was enhanced to be published monthly. Throughout its 50-year lifespan, the magazine has gone through various name changes, but it adopted its current title, Monthly Shonen Magazine, in 1975. According to Comic Natalie, they shared updates on their anniversary celebration and revealed new edition cover volumes.

No specific release schedule has been disclosed yet for the remainder of the series. These new editions are now available in Japanese. Western fans eagerly anticipate that these stunning new versions will be published in English soon.

The report additionally disclosed the new covers for upcoming editions. In Beck’s reissue, Yukio “Koyuki” Tanaka is depicted holding his cherished guitar against a variety of colorful backdrops. Beck, Your Lie in April, and Noragami All Got Excellent Anime Adaptations

The renowned manga “Beck,” penned by Harold Sakuishi, is set for a re-release, marking one of the largest comics to return to shelves. Originally published from 1999 to 2008, this captivating story revolves around fourteen-year-old Yukio “Koyuki” Tanaka, whose monotonous life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters sixteen-year-old guitarist Ryuusuke “Ray” Minami, who instills in him a passion for music. Marvelous Entertainment later adapted the manga into an anime in 2004, which came to be known as “Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad“. Despite its cult following, locating this classic anime on streaming platforms can be quite challenging.

The heartrending series “Your Lie in April,” penned by Arakawa Naoshi, is receiving a fresh edition. This romantic drama, which unfolded from 2011 to 2015, focuses on Kosei Arima, a pianist who stopped playing after his mother passed away. However, when he encounters the talented young violinist Kaori Miyazono, a new chapter in music begins. “Your Lie in April” was transformed into an anime in 2014, much like “Beck,” and it only ran for one season. It is widely regarded as one of the saddest anime ever made.

In the creative work of Adachitoka, titled “Noragami“, we find a departure from the music genre as it focuses on a lesser deity trying to expand his fanbase by partnering with a human girl, after rescuing her from danger. The anime adaptation of this series premiered in 2014, spanning across two seasons and receiving praise from critics while building a devoted fan base.
