Xbox Feels It Made a Mistake Skipping PS5 with Hellblade 2, It's Claimed

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia and anticipation when it comes to Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. Having played and been captivated by its prequel, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, the prospect of diving back into that hauntingly beautiful world was one I eagerly awaited.

In this year’s The Game Awards, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 garnered several well-deserved accolades; however, its initial release was more of a quiet murmur than a loud bang. Despite the number of players on Steam being far from an absolute measure, Ninja Theory’s sequel started with fewer than 4,000 players, and it seems that its availability on Game Pass might have hampered its full-price sales.

Initially released exclusively for the PlayStation 4, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice captivated players on Sony’s platform with its engaging narrative. However, after the studio was bought out, the sequel bypassed the PlayStation 5 altogether.

Reports suggest that Microsoft might be planning to make more of its games available on rival consoles. According to Xbox insider Jez Corden, he’s heard through the grapevine that Microsoft views the exclusivity of Hellblade as a mistake.

It’s not surprising that such a statement, made without any supporting data, might be true. The game didn’t seem to significantly improve the sales of the Xbox Series X|S, and it could have done well on PlayStation consoles instead.

Time will tell if we’ll eventually witness a conversion, but what’s crucial now is the availability of developer resources, as Microsoft themselves have emphasized. If Ninja Theory finds the opportunity, it’s likely that a port will materialize in due course.
