As a longtime fan of narrative-driven action-adventure games, I eagerly anticipate the release of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, developed by Amy Hennig and her team at Skydance New Media. With her impressive resume, which includes Legacy of Kain, Uncharted, and more, I have high hopes that this game will deliver an immersive and engaging experience reminiscent of the Uncharted series.
With games like Legacy of Kain, Uncharted, and others under her belt, it’s clear that Amy Hennig has a rich and established history in creating narrative-driven cinematic action-adventure titles. Now, with Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, the studio led by Hennig, Skydance New Media, aims to reach similar lofty heights.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hennig expressed her aspiration for Marvel 1943 to create a “shared living-room gaming experience” that is equally captivating to play as it is to watch, much like the Uncharted series of games.
In order to attract the largest audience possible while showcasing innovative game experiences, our approach is to offer familiar and beloved concepts, but reinvented in unique ways.
As a gamer, I’m excited about Hennig’s revelation that Marvel 1943 is aiming high in the graphics department, striving for photorealistic visuals. Yet, it’s not just about stunning graphics; they’re also committed to keeping the gameplay and overall presentation rooted and authentic.
She explained that since everything is computer-generated, it’s quite simple to lose touch with reality very quickly. Even films can fall into this pitfall when there’s too much CG, making it hard to discern where one is standing. Our goal was to ensure a high level of realism so that you wouldn’t realize you’re playing a game. Instead, it should seem and feel like watching an outstanding Marvel movie or TV show, but with the added twist that you control the action.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is set to unfold a thrilling tale that will transport players across multiple destinations worldwide. Initially confirmed this year was the setting of Occupied Paris, while Wakanda has also been included in the lineup, with sneak peeks of its artwork also shared. Take a look here.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is set to launch sometime in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
