Greg Davies and Alex Horne

As a seasoned cinephile and connoisseur of all things humorous, I must confess that I find myself drawn to the whimsical charm of Christmas cracker jokes, much like a moth to a flame. While they may not set the world alight with their wit, there’s an undeniable joy in sharing a groan-worthy joke around the dinner table.

How do you feel about Christmas cracker jokes?

Greg I find it surprising, but I actually enjoy going through with them and listening to my family read them aloud!

Alex expresses a fondness for crafting humor, and has the confidence to assert that he could add humor to family situations, even if the jokes might be perceived as arrogant. He trusts that comedians can pull off such performances. He’s determined and ready to give it his all.

Alex, you write the jokes for the Taskmaster Christmas crackers. What’s the secret?

Alex, writing something amusingly absurd can elicit a chuckle or even a groan. These responses indicate that you’ve made a connection with your audience, and a question like “Which actor quenches your thirst the most? Leonardo DiCaprio Sun.” is a great example of that!

Greg I mean, it’s quite good.

Alex What about Danny DeVimto?

Greg I don’t mind that, either.

What are your Christmas traditions?

In my family, there’s a long-standing custom that I find quite archaic. We’re only allowed to open gifts from Santa Claus in the morning, but we have to wait until after cleaning up every dish from our Christmas dinner before we can open any other presents.

Alex Whoa, not even after the meal?

Greg said, “Nothing yet. I’ll start once everything is cleaned up and everyone has taken their seats. The longing in my nieces’ eyes reminded me of how I felt as a kid on Christmas; it almost ruined the holiday for me back then.

As a movie buff, I’ve got a unique family tradition that I love. After we finish dinner, we gather around one pineapple, and each of us takes a stab at guessing how many leaves are sitting on its topmost part. The eldest among us then takes the responsibility to count the leaves.

Greg It’s quite astonishing that your family follows a peculiar custom which seems unique not just within our nation, but across the entire country.

Alex They keep going. They get really small. You’re looking at triple figures. You’re looking at 100-plus.

In the residence of the Hornes, it feels as if they’re saying, “Come join us, as we now embark on a quest to tally the scales of a pineapple?” It seems as though they’ve been transported back into a time-warp of the Victorian era.
