As a veteran gamer who has witnessed the evolution of gaming consoles from the humble Atari 2600 to the mighty PlayStation 5 and beyond, I find myself both disappointed and unsurprised by the news that Marvel Rivals will not be gracing the screens of Nintendo Switch owners.
Marvel Rivals has swept across the globe like a whirlwind! In just over two weeks since its debut, this exciting, free-to-play multiplayer game inspired by Overwatch has been downloaded more than 20 million times.
It’s quite astonishing that out of the 20 million players, none of them are playing on a Nintendo Switch since the game isn’t compatible with this versatile console yet.
It’s quite surprising that a Switch version hasn’t been developed by NetEase Games yet, as it could potentially be very successful. Is there any specific reason for this absence?
Indeed, the game’s director has unequivocally addressed the possibility of Marvel Rivals being released for Nintendo Switch or mobile platforms.
You probably won’t like the answer.
Find out if Marvel Rivals is headed to Nintendo Switch, and hear directly from the game’s director regarding potential plans for a handheld version.
Will Marvel Rivals come to Switch? Director gives a firm answer
Marvel Rivals will not be coming to Nintendo Switch, the director of the game has revealed.
During a chat with Pocket Tactics, the game’s mastermind, Thaddeus Sasser, was queried about potential plans to introduce the game on Nintendo Switch or mobile devices down the line.
Sasser’s answer left no room for debate, “No talks are happening,” about moving the game to Nintendo Switch or mobile platforms.
It’s certainly disappointing news for those anticipating a Nintendo Switch version of the game, but given the circumstances, it seems like a reasonable decision.
Running Marvel Rivals on Nintendo Switch, given that it’s developed using Unreal Engine 5, seems like a challenging engineering feat.
We highly doubt we’ll ever see the game get released on Nintendo’s handheld/home console hybrid.

Speaking of the future, the next version of the Nintendo Switch, reportedly named Switch 2 or something similar, is expected to be a different beast altogether. It’s said that this new console could boast greater power than its predecessor, making it capable of handling games like Marvel Rivals with relative ease.
For now, it’s highly unlikely that Marvel Rivals will be available on the Nintendo Switch. Time might change this, but as of now, it seems improbable.
You can enjoy playing Marvel Rivals without cost on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, as well as PC platforms like Steam and the Epic Games Store.
