Sci-Fi Romance from After the Rain Creator Reveals Trailer & Release Window

As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of manga and anime, I must say that the upcoming adaptation of “Kowloon Generic Romance” has piqued my interest significantly. With its origins in Weekly Young Jump, a publication known for birthing modern classics such as “Oshi no Ko” and “Kingdom”, it already carries a certain weight of expectation.

Weekly Young Jump, a popular Japanese magazine published by Shueisha, is renowned for its collection of modern classics such as “Oshi no Ko” and “Kingdom”. Another one of its properties is about to be transformed into an anime. The newest manga to join the adaptation roster is “Kowloon Generic Romance”, penned by Jun Mayuzuki, who also wrote “After the Rain“. The anime adaptation of this manga is scheduled for a release window in April 2025 and is being produced by Arvo Animation, known for their work on “We Never Learn: BOKUBEN” and “Irina: The Vampire Cosmonaut”.

In 2020, this highly praised comic book series was up for consideration in the sixth Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Awards. The following year, it ranked third in the Male Readers category of Kono Manga go Sugoi, a well-known annual ranking and review platform for manga. Furthermore, it was nominated for the 14th Manga Taisho Award and finished ninth in the overall standings that same year. Notably, this manga is set to receive dual adaptations – both an anime and live-action series, slated for release during the same year. The initial trailer provides a closer look at the characters, as the plot itself remains enshrouded in secrecy. The anime will air on TV Tokyo, with specific broadcast times to be revealed later. Moreover, details about the streaming availability for “Kowloon Generic Romance’s” anime will also be shared at a future date.

What Is the Plot of Kowloon Generic Romance?

The narrative unfolds within the confines of Kowloon Walled City, a once bustling and complex district of Hong Kong, renowned for its intricate layout. Although it was razed in the 1990s, some individuals who cherish the traditional lifestyle still consider it their residence. Following this event, real estate agent Reiko Kujikari is longing for the vibrancy of contemporary urban areas within the city.

Nevertheless, Reiko’s coworker, Hajime Kudou, harbors a strong longing for days gone by and is reluctant to embrace modernity that infiltrates their city. An incident one day turns into a prank that backfires, causing Hajime to express an unforeseen romantic sentiment towards Reiko, only to swiftly retract it. This puzzling behavior from Hajime prompts Reiko to delve into the reason for his actions. However, she never anticipated discovering a past she can’t recall that has been long forgotten.

Since 2019, the serial novel titled “Kowloon Romance in General” has been published, with a total of ten volumes now accessible for purchase across the globe.
