Summary
- Stalker 2 made a profit and sold over a million copies on launch day, exceeding expectations.
- GSC Game World’s hard work paid off despite bugs.
- The success of Stalker 2 has inspired the team to aim for a Netflix series and to exceed all forecasts.
As a gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl has proven to be one of the most inspiring games to come out this year. It may not have garnered the player count as some other titles, but it has certainly made a significant impact amidst the ongoing global conflicts.
Among the gaming triumphs of 2024, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl stands out as a remarkable achievement. Although it didn’t garner the player base that Black Myth: Wukong or Infinity Nikki did, or reach 20 million players like the latter, the fact that it was developed amid ongoing conflict makes Stalker 2 nothing short of a small marvel.
Despite the fact that having two million simultaneous players at once was never achievable, Stalker 2 managed to attract over 120,000 players on Steam, which is a promising sign for future success. It seems that these numbers have translated into profit for GSC Game World, and this is just the start.
GSC Game World Owner Discusses Stalker 2’s Success
In an uncommon conversation with Forbes Ukraine, Krippa explained the hurdles encountered during Stalker 2’s creation. He shared that prior to launch, the team was practically working around the clock. They were deeply invested in this project, particularly amidst the ongoing war. The goal was to instill hope and pride within their country, demonstrating that Ukrainians are capable of producing projects of such high caliber. Despite anticipating some minor, non-essential glitches, they aimed to release it by November 20th without any delays; otherwise, the team risked burning out completely.
It’s great news that Krippa acknowledges the hard work of the 470-member team has paid off, as GSC Game World has managed to sell sufficient units to make the project financially successful.
As more Downloadable Content (DLC) is released and additional platform launches are planned, we’re optimistic that we not only will reach but possibly surpass even the most ambitious predictions.
On its initial day, the game managed to sell more than a million copies, leading people to wonder if it could surpass $1 billion in sales. Krippa responded by saying, “Considering future DLC and platform releases, we’re optimistic that not only will we meet, but possibly even outdo, even the most ambitious predictions.
In essence, there’s plenty more in store for Stalker 2, such as two expansion packs and multiplayer functionality. Krippa expresses that the potential sales at the end of this venture remain uncertain. He prefers to avoid specifying numbers to avoid any misfortune or negative connotations.
CD Projekt Red Proved An Inspiration In More Ways Than One
Krippa looks up to CD Projekt Red as an example of where GSC Game World could reach. “The Witcher is a source of national pride for Poles – it’s a book, a game, and there’s even a Netflix series about it. Stalker 2 shares the same ambition, but with a Ukrainian twist. We hope to have our own Netflix series too; discussions are ongoing, but the matter is not yet settled.
Certain negotiations are currently underway, but the issue has not been resolved yet.
Although it started with numerous bugs, it’s inspiring to witness the success of GSC Game World’s hard work. Here’s hoping their progress continues.
