Watch Your Back, Troy, Ben Starr’s Back in Another Leading Role

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the current crop of video game voice actors is nothing short of impressive. But when it comes to the English male leads, there’s one name that keeps popping up, and that’s Ben Starr. Born in 1988, this young whippersnapper (or so it seems to us old-timers) has been making waves since he first appeared on the scene.

In the world of video game voice acting, it’s uncertain if they regularly compare their characters’ power levels in a competitive or even life-threatening manner, much like some gaming journalists. However, we at Push Square have our own informal ranking system, and when it comes to a contest between Final Fantasy XIII’s Snow Villiers and Final Fantasy XVI’s Clive Rosfield, we consistently favor Starr.

At the current moment, Troy Baker is considered to be one of the most prominent English male voice actors in the industry, having delivered several memorable performances (and with more roles upcoming in Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and Kojima’s Death Stranding: On the Beach). However, there’s this up-and-coming actor named Starr, who was born in 1988, just a year ahead of me. Despite being younger, he continues to secure new jobs and has some intriguing projects on the horizon.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to be the protagonist in “The First Berserker: Khazan,” set to release based on the massive Dungeon Fighter Online IP from Nexon, boasting an astounding 800 million players worldwide. It’s quite likely that this game will resonate with many. With its cell-shaded visuals and combat reminiscent of the Soulslike genre, after some initial hiccups, it’s shaping up nicely. Keep your eyes peeled for its launch on 27th March 2025!

We’re most eager for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a fresh and contemporary reimagining of AAA, turn-based RPGs, which is expected to release in 2025. Starring as party member Verso, Starr joins an exceptionally talented ensemble, and we have reason to believe this game could be a blockbuster, assuming there are no unexpected disasters.

What do you think of the industry’s rising young star, the 36-year-old Ben Starr? Whatever happened to Nolan North? Never mix business and friendship in the comments section below.
