As a seasoned movie enthusiast with a penchant for character development and relatability, I find David Corenswet‘s take on Superman’s naivety to be refreshingly authentic. Having experienced my own share of feeling like an outsider in school, I can empathize with his portrayal of Clark Kent. The ability to perceive people as the best versions of themselves and relationships as such, despite the petty dramas that often ensue, is a quality that resonates deeply.
David Corenswet is set to embody the character of Superman in James Gunn’s upcoming film, scheduled for release next year. Unlike recent portrayals, Gunn’s version appears to be returning to the original ethos of Superman. During a media Q&A on the Warner Bros. lot, Corenswet discussed his interpretation of Superman’s ‘naivety,’ suggesting it could actually be a positive trait. The 31-year-old actor related this naivety to personal experiences where he felt out of place, such as when he missed out on school drama during his education.
David Corenswet on Superman’s Naivety
Growing up, I was often left out of school dramas, as no one seemed to keep me informed and I never managed to get the inside scoop on all the exciting gossip. As a result, I tended to view people and their relationships in an idealized light, perhaps not entirely naively, but more like how some might perceive Superman – with a certain innocence or lack of worldly knowledge.
In my perspective, there’s a hint of truth in that observation, but I believe it boils down to an unconscious disregard for minor flaws and disagreements, the trivial matters we often find ourselves entangled in as human beings. Often, I too overlook these aspects, and I suspect Superman does the same. This blindness, I believe, is what keeps him focused on the positive, the optimistic, the future, all while maintaining a connection with the joy and lightheartedness of the present moment.
According to DC Studios, the upcoming movie “Superman,” set for release on July 11, 2025, follows the tale of Superman’s struggle to blend his alien background as a Kryptonian with his human upbringing in Smallville, Kansas as Clark Kent. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and a brighter future, influenced by human compassion in a world that often views kindness as outdated.
Apart from Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan portrays the famed Lois Lane – an acclaimed journalist at The Daily Planet who is also Clark’s partner. In addition to them, other newsroom personnel featured in the movie include Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard (a sports reporter for The Daily Planet), and Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe.
In this upcoming project, Nicholas Hoult takes on the role of Lex Luthor, working alongside his assistant Eve Teschmacher, portrayed by supermodel-turned-actress Sara Sampaio. Moreover, Neva Howell steps into the shoes of Martha, Clark’s adoptive mother, a character essential to every Superman adaptation. Lastly, Anthony Carrigan brings the beloved Metamorpho character to life.
