As a lifelong Superman fan who has spent countless hours watching the original Christopher Reeve films, I can confidently say that David Corenswet’s performance as the Man of Steel in the upcoming movie is nothing short of remarkable. James Gunn’s comparison to Reeve is not only fitting but also well-deserved, as Corenswet’s dedication and thoughtful work ethic are truly awe-inspiring.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I can’t help but share the thrill when I heard director James Gunn extol David Corenswet in such high terms, likening him to the legendary Christopher Reeve. During a recent Q&A following the unveiling of the Superman teaser trailer, Gunn highlighted Corenswet’s remarkable work ethic that mirrors Reeve’s thoughtful approach. He commended Corenswet for his unwavering commitment to acting, emphasizing his dedication to the craft.
Gunn stated that Corenswet’s connection to Christopher Reeve comes from his intense training. In fact, Gunn has never encountered an actor as dedicated as him throughout his career. Every day, Corenswet pushed Gunn to extract the best from his character and the story. Everything he portrayed in the movie was authentic, leaving no room for doubt or questioning his performance. Not even during daily screenings did Gunn ever think that Corenswet was acting falsely or half-heartedly.
Later on, Gunn shared a tale in which his initial concerns about choosing Clark Kent and Lois Lane were alleviated on the very first day of selection. He expressed: “It was quite extraordinary — the amusing part is, I received self-tapes from Rachel [Brosnahan] and David on our inaugural casting day. Therefore, the aspect that had me most anxious at the outset was casting Superman, but after the first day, I thought, ‘I believe he’s quite capable.’
Over the course of a week, Gunn and DC Studios built anticipation for the Superman teaser trailer, beginning with the unveiling of a motion poster on Monday, followed by a 30-second teaser on Wednesday. The grand reveal of the 2-minute trailer took place on Thursday morning, offering fans their initial glimpse of Corenswet’s Superman in action. Despite all the excitement leading up to it, Gunn saved some surprises for later; indeed, the first thing we witnessed this Superman doing was summoning Krypto.
In the trailer, we were introduced to a host of beloved characters too, like Nathan Fillion’s Green Lantern Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi. We also caught glimpses of Nicholas Hoult portraying Lex Luthor, as well as a number of shots featuring Brosnahan in the role of Lois Lane. Although it seems like most surprises might have been given away by the trailer, since there are still over seven months until its release, it’s safe to assume that there may be some additional exciting reveals ahead for this movie.
On July 11, 2025, the movie “Superman” will be released. Meanwhile, the initial title in the DC Universe, “Creature Commandos”, is currently available for streaming on Max.
