The Six Triple Eight – NETFLIX

As a movie buff who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich tapestry of World War II films, I must say that The Six Triple Eight is a unique and inspiring addition to this genre. However, as someone who appreciates both history and cinematic artistry, I find it a bit disappointing that Tyler Perry’s direction and script didn’t quite live up to the potential of this remarkable story.

The Six Triple Eight isn’t a recent guess about the number of undeclared kids that Boris Johnson might have, but rather it tells the authentic tale of a World War II battalion, unique because it was made up entirely of black women, and it was the only one that served in Europe during the war.

Under the leadership of Major Charity Adams, portrayed by Kerry Washington, she initially finds the tasks assigned to her battalion unimpressive and is further dismayed by the rampant sexism and overt racism prevalent during that time. Matters worsen when they are given a seemingly trivial task: sorting and sifting through millions of letters for soldiers fighting abroad within a few months. However, it’s new recruit Lean Derriecott (played by Ebony Obsidian), who lost her childhood sweetheart in combat, that recognizes the importance and the significant impact on troop morale this task has.

In simpler terms,

Despite the relatively obscure female cast, they manage to handle the occasionally unoriginal dialogue and an unexpected appearance by Oprah Winfrey conversing with the Roosevelts. Remarkably, Meghan Markle’s presence is notably absent from the scene, sparing us from her intrusive hugging and posing for her personal photographer on set. The story itself is compelling, but unfortunately, the movie adaptation doesn’t live up to it.
