As a dedicated fan of the Yellowstone universe, I can’t help but feel a sense of bittersweet nostalgia as I bid farewell to two of my favorite characters, Kevin Costner and Wes Bentley. Just like a cowboy doesn’t say goodbye until he’s in that f–king dirt, these men have truly embodied their roles and given us unforgettable performances.
Cowboys don’t bid farewell until they’ve truly left, and that appears to be the case for Kevin Costner and his co-star Wes Bentley as they have both completed their journeys on the highly successful Paramount series Yellowstone.
After the climactic and tragic finale of the fifth season, which saw the demise of Jamie Dutton, portrayed by Bentley, a character closely related to John Dutton (Costner), it was revealed that their step-sister Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) exacted her long-awaited revenge for his role in the murder of their father. In a turn of events, the actor expressed his willingness to prolong his involvement in the Yellowstone universe.
Expressing curiosity about potential sequels, Bentley shared with The Hollywood Reporter, taking care not to reveal Jamie’s surprising death scene. “Playing such a complex character is challenging, but if given the opportunity, I would continue. Collaborating with creator Taylor Sheridan has been rewarding, so I’d be open to more projects in his creative realm.
Having spent my entire career immersed in the world of films, culminating in the unexpected success seven years ago, I find myself eager to embark on new chapters and discover what lies ahead.
Costner, much like before, seemed prepared to remove his boots, thereby signifying his departure from the Dutton Ranch come summer, following over a year of anticipation and rumors.
He wanted to share some news with you. After a year-and-a-half of working on “Horizon,” and taking care of all the tasks related to it, and considering the upcoming seasons of his favorite show, “Yellowstone,” he realized that he will not be able to carry on with season 5B or any future seasons.
And while creator Sheridan admitted he was “disappointed” to have Costner tip his hat for the final time, he’s hardly the first star to mosey away from a major role.
