Dakota Johnson & More to Star in Colleen Hoover’s Verity Film

As a dedicated bookworm and a frequent binge-watcher, I have to say that the world of television has truly come alive for me with these fantastic adaptations. From the scandalous lives of the Upper East Side elite in Gossip Girl to the magical adventures of The Magicians, each series has transported me to new realms and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Colleen Hoover’s work in Hollywood isn’t ending anytime soon.

A month after it was confirmed that Anne Hathaway would star in the upcoming film adaptation of Verity, Amazon MGM Studios has now announced that Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett have also signed on to join the CoHo Cinematic Universe.

The narrative revolves around the character of struggling author Lowen Ashleigh, who is commissioned by Jeremy Crawford (known as Josh) to finish the uncompleted villain series novels in a highly successful series, as his wife Verity Crawford (Anne) was unable to do so due to an unexplained incident. As Lowen delves into the research for the book, she discovers a string of unsettling secrets about the Crawford family that cause her to question her choice to undertake this project.

TopMob News has reached out to reps for Dakota and Josh and has not heard back.

Simultaneously, Colleen couldn’t contain her excitement, expressing it on Instagram on December 20th with the words, “I’m more than excited.

Just shared: The new development follows the announcement that Anne will be part of the movie, which Michael Showalter (known for “The Idea of You”) is set to direct, on Instagram.

She announced last month that “Verity” will be in cinemas soon. I’m thrilled about the actors, the storyline, the director, and the entire crew making it happen. I can hardly wait! More details to follow shortly!

2016 has been an utterly incredible year for me as an author, seeing my novel “It Ends With Us” transformed into a film that boasts stars like Justin Baldoni, Blake Lively, and Brandon Sklenar. It’s hard not to take a moment and marvel at the journey my career has taken during this significant milestone, reflecting on the vast expanse of creative success I’ve been fortunate enough to experience.

She shared on Instagram in May that she began writing this book a whole decade ago. Much has transformed over the past ten years, yet your consistent support remains steadfast. Yes, the literary world may be louder and more turbulent now, but it is brimming with love, kind intentions, supporters, and some of the finest friends I’ve ever encountered. Your remarkable presence today leaves me speechless. Incredible!

She went on to say, “This book has been immersed in a community of actors and filmmakers who have put in tremendous effort to ensure they do justice by all of you. They aim to enhance aspects I wasn’t aware of a decade ago, while safeguarding everything that holds significance for you. I can hardly wait for you to witness it. Thank you for today, and every day.

In the meantime, as we gather further information about Verity, here are some other books that have found success in both print and screen formats. Enjoy!

The show is an adaptation of James Clavell’s 1975 novel with the same title, which delved into significant historical events and key figures from Japan during the early Edo period. Besides the 2024 series, this book has been previously adapted into a miniseries in 1980, as well as a stage musical, board game, and video games.

Ever since “The Morning Show” burst onto the scene in 2019, it’s been my absolute obsession! This Apple TV+ powerhouse continues to dominate the streaming world, largely due to the phenomenal acting chops of its stars – Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Billy Crudup. Each one of them has garnered Emmy nominations during the show’s run.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, let me share my thoughts on the captivating tale penned by Casey McQuiston in her 2019 blockbuster novel, “Red, White & Royal Blue.” This enchanting story came to life as an Amazon Prime movie in 2023, starring none other than Taylor Zakhar Perez as the fictional son of the U.S. president and Nicholas Galitzine as the dashing Prince of England. The film’s heartwarming portrayal of their love story earned it a well-deserved nomination for the 2024 Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Television Movie category.

In Ryan Murphy’s anthology series titled “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans,” set to air in 2024, the narrative unfolds around Truman Capote, portrayed by Tom Hollander, who damaged his relationships with a circle of New York City socialites, often referred to as “Swans.” This was due to an article he wrote for Esquire in 1975, where he depicted them in thinly veiled versions. The show is adapted from Laurence Leamer’s 2021 book, “Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era.” Notable actors such as Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny, Calista Flockhart, Demi Moore, Molly Ringwald, and the late Treat Williams graced the screen in this FX production. The second season garnered a total of 10 Emmy nominations in 2024, with acting nods for Hollander, Watts, Williams, and Lane.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but share my excitement about the 2023 adaptation of Thomas Mallon’s 2008 novel, “Fellow Travelers.” This captivating drama, airing on Showtime, follows the tumultuous journey of Hawkins Fuller (played brilliantly by Matt Bomer) and Timothy Laughlin (masterfully portrayed by Jonathan Bailey). Their poignant love story unfolds across decades, from the 1950s to the 1980s.

At the tail end of 2020, Netflix’s portrayal of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton romance novel series became a remarkable cultural sensation. The reason for its popularity was primarily due to a multicultural cast, captivating soundtrack, and sensual love scenes that left streaming service subscribers eagerly anticipating each episode. Additionally, the show garnered critical acclaim, securing a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series at the 2021 Emmys.

This captivating drama featuring grand battles and tragic love stories is adapted from the renowned book series by George R.R Martin. Though the books are commercially successful in their own right, the television program has attracted fans worldwide, many who aren’t regular followers of the original literature. Over eight seasons, this HBO production earned a record-breaking 58 Emmy Awards, making it the most award-winning drama in history. Despite differing opinions on the contentious finale, which deviated from Martin’s plans to present a unique ending, the show is destined to be remembered as one of the most acclaimed ever produced.

HBO’s small-screen adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s popular book drew top-tier talent, with Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and Laura Dern inhabiting the coveted roles of five women ensnared in a murder investigation. As captivating as the book, the first season garnered eight Primetime Emmy Awards and attracted Meryl Streep to join for a crucial role in the second season, which Moriarty contributed to even though there was no more source material to adapt. Although not quite as universally acclaimed as the first, season two still earned nominations for Meryl Streep and Laura Dern in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category.

The series titled “Palm Royale” received three Emmy nominations for 2024: Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (Kristen Wiig), and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Carol Burnett). Interestingly, although it is based on the 2018 book “Mr. & Mrs. American Pie” by Juliet McDaniel, the Apple TV+ show takes a completely different direction from its original source material. The story is set during the late ’60s and revolves around Wiig’s character, Maxine Simmons, who was once a beauty pageant queen, as she strives to join the high society of Palm Beach. However, in the novel, instead of being part of Palm Beach, Maxine ends up in Scottsdale, Ariz., after causing a drunken scene at Thanksgiving following her husband’s revelation that he is leaving her for his secretary.

The HBO production unfolds towards the end of the Vietnam War, focusing on a Vietnamese spy who escapes to a U.S. refugee camp, where his allegiance is questioned as he secretly continues to provide intel to the Viet Cong. Robert Downey Jr.’s captivating performance in multiple roles earned him the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie award at the 2024 Emmys.

Debuting on Hulu in 2017, this adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian 1985 novel is set in the totalitarian state of Gilead that emerges after a Second American Civil War. However, the series has since moved beyond its original source material as it progresses, focusing on June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss), the main character and a subjugated handmaid, as she fights for her freedom. It has garnered several Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series in its first season.

Originally based on Alex Haley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “Roots: The Saga of an American Family,” published in 1976, this groundbreaking miniseries made its debut on ABC the following year. Ratings were exceptionally high, and the finale remains a record-breaker as the second-most-watched series finale in U.S. television history. A remake titled “Roots” was released in 2016, featuring Malachi Kirby and Anika Noni Rose.

Among the fascinating characters gracing this timeless drama is a waitress with psychic abilities and vampires sporting southern accents, just to name a few. This captivating series, starring real-life couple Anna Pacquin and Stephen Moyer, originates from The Southern Vampire Mysteries book series by Charlaine Harris. Set in a Louisiana town, the story unfolds over seven seasons before concluding in 2014. One can never forget the generosity of this show for offering glimpses of the chiseled physiques of Alexander Skarsgård and Joe Manganiello.

This captivating drama not only stole the hearts of viewers in its native land, but also won a global following, including here in the States where it was awarded the prestigious title of Best Television Film at the 2016 Emmys.

This thrilling series, centered around historical fiction novels by author Diana Gabaldon, features elements of time-travel, uprising, and a romantic entanglement among its main themes. Caitriona Balfe portrays a nurse who ventures into another era and finds herself drawn to a rebellious Scottish highlander (Sam Heughan), despite being married in her own timeline.

Following the 2014 novel “You Should Have Known” by Jean Hanff Korelitz, Nicole Kidman found herself back as the central figure in another gripping murder mystery with the series “The Undoing”. In this story, Grace Fraser, played by Kidman, experiences a life-altering event when her husband Jonathan (Hugh Grant) becomes a prime suspect for the murder of Elena Alves (Matilda De Angelis).

In the grand finale of that captivating show we all watched, I must admit there were mixed feelings swirling among us viewers. However, one thing that was universally appreciated was Nicole Kidman’s impeccable fashion choices throughout the series. Simply put, her wardrobe was nothing short of top-notch!

As a devoted fan, I followed the gripping crime drama centered around Dexter Morgan, played by Michael C. Hall, who was a blood spatter analyst during the day and a night-time serial killer. After seven enthralling seasons, the series concluded in 2019, bidding farewell to Litchfield Penitentiary.

Prior to Kyle Chandler gracing our TV screens and winning over viewers, the sports drama was first presented as a film featuring Billy Bob Thornton in the same role. However, in 2006, H.G. Bissinger’s non-fiction book “Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream” made its debut on television, converting non-football enthusiasts into believers. Alongside Chandler, the series featured Connie Britton, Minka Kelly, Scott Porter, Michael B. Jordan, and Taylor Kitsch as Tim Riggins. Let’s all chant it together now: “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts…

Another Liane Moriarty adaptation! In 2021, Nicole Kidman and David E. Kelley collaborated once more to bring Moriarty’s 2018 novel Nine Perfect Strangers to life. Debuting on Hulu, the series followed Masha Dmitrichenko (Kidman), a wellness retreat guru ready to transform the lives of nine, wait for it, strangers, including Frances (Melissa McCarthy), Lars (Luke Evans), Tony (Bobby Cannavale), Carmel (Regina Hall), Napoleon (Michael Shannon), Jessica (Samara Weaving), Ben (Melvin Gregg), Heather (Asher Keddie) and Zoe (Grace Van Patten).

Whether or not they were content with these explanations remains a subject for debate.

The SyFy series “The Magicians” takes viewers into the magical realm of Brakebills University, inspired by Lev Grossman’s beloved novels. Characters face college life struggles such as complex relationships and substance abuse, while also mastering their magical abilities – making things even more intricate. Throughout its five-season run, the missions escalated, often requiring the characters to save the multiverse or magic itself (nothing too demanding, right?). However, one constant element was the captivating musical episode.

The attractive ensemble, comprising stars like Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Kat Graham, and Ian Somerhalder, undeniably played a significant role in making this supernatural TV show on The CW a massive success.
