As a seasoned cinephile who has traversed the expansive terrain of comic book adaptations, I must say that the announcement of “Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time” has sent my adrenaline soaring. The sheer audacity and unapologetic mayhem that this series promises is a testament to the enduring allure of Wade Wilson’s anarchic antics.
In April 2025, Deadpool, known as The Merc with a Mouth, resumes his lethal actions in the five-issue limited series titled “Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time“. This narrative, penned by Cullen Bunn and illustrated by Dalibor Talajić, concludes the cherished violent trilogy. In this storyline, Deadpool embarks on a destructive journey across the Marvel Multiverse to eliminate corrupted versions of iconic heroes. Unlike their noble predecessors, these characters are now malevolent and twisted versions of the Hulk, Captain America, and others, allowing Wade Wilson to exterminate them all without a trace of regret (as he never feels remorse in the first place).
Despite the wildness of the earlier chapters in this series, Bunn guarantees to take things a step further with “Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time“. He’s told Marvel that he and Talajić wouldn’t return for another DEADPOOL KILLS story unless they could deliver something genuinely surprising. And that’s exactly what you’ll find here. You’ll also get, in my opinion, the most grandiose Deadpool tale ever crafted.
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I must admit that the previous Deadpool installments set in alternate realities had their charm. Yet, envisioning Wade Wilson traversing the multiverse to eliminate various iterations of iconic Marvel characters is downright exhilarating!
Talajić is just as excited about what this story has in store for readers as Bunn, saying, “This is the third time Cullen imagines Deadpool killing the whole Marvel Universe, and for the third time I am in awe with this guy’s imagination! Trust me, one hell of a ride awaits for you. I’m already halfway through and I’m having a blast! Something that started almost as a joke turned out to be a big event trilogy, 15 years in the making, and that makes me pretty proud!”
In 2011, the initial plot of this trilogy began with the four-issue series titled “Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe“. Here, Deadpool was compelled to undergo therapy by the X-Men, but his therapist turned out to be the villain Psycho-Man. This therapy session goes awry, further deteriorating Deadpool’s already unstable mind. Influenced by a new persona, he slays Psycho-Man and then targets all other heroes, villains, and even creators of the comic books. To add to this chaos, in his signature style of breaking the fourth wall, Deadpool eventually aims his destruction at the readers as well.
In 2017, the success of the series led Bunn and Talajić to produce a sequel titled “Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe Again“. This new storyline draws inspiration from the beloved Wolverine narrative, “Old Man Logan“, as Deadpool is manipulated by Psycho-Man and Red Skull into believing that all heroes are villains. As a result, he embarks on another violent rampage. A group of surviving heroes unite to halt this bloody spree, but Deadpool’s knack for breaking the fourth wall complicates their efforts.
Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time #1 will be released on April 2, 2025.
