Paul Rudd and Jack Black Are Rebooting Anaconda (and It Has a Release Date)

As a die-hard fan of both Paul Rudd and Jack Black, I am beyond excited for the upcoming reboot of Anaconda! Having grown up watching these comedic legends, it feels like a dream come true to see them teaming up for such an iconic franchise. The original Anaconda may not have been a critical darling, but it has certainly left its mark on pop culture and has become a beloved cult classic.

The remake of the movie “Anaconda” featuring Paul Rudd and Jack Black is set to hit theaters on Christmas Day, 2025. While the original 1997 film “Anaconda” wasn’t known for its comedic elements, Sony Pictures plans to reimagine the franchise as a comedy with the addition of comedy veterans Paul Rudd and Jack Black, along with director Tom Gormican. So, mark your calendars for next year’s holiday season and get ready for a fresh take on “Anaconda” in the meantime, by checking out Rudd and Black promoting their upcoming comedy!

The promotional video for the movie “Anaconda” showcases Jack Black and Paul Rudd warmly greeting one another with an embrace. Afterward, Black retrieves his phone for a quick recording session, during which they jointly announce that they’ll be producing “Anaconda,” set to premiere on Christmas Day of 2025. In the video, Rudd teases viewers by saying, “Are you looking for a scare? A laugh? A festive celebration with your loved ones? Or perhaps you’re feeling down and just want to forget about it all?” Black then jokes that the real anaconda is located in another room, ready to be fed a donkey. As a result, they decide to leave and watch the feeding instead.

Initial reports indicate that the upcoming film titled “Anaconda” will revolve around a cluster of companions navigating mid-life predicaments as they reenact a cherished movie from their past in the rainforest. However, their trip takes an unexpected turn when they find themselves battling for survival against various perils, such as ruthless criminals, natural calamities, and undeniably, enormous serpents. Notably, there was another revamp of “Anaconda” under development in 2020 by Evan Daugherty, who is also known for writing “Snow White and the Huntsman“.

As a movie enthusiast, I’d say I remember vividly watching the 1997 classic “Anaconda,” directed by Luis Llosa and featuring an impressive cast including Ice Cube, Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Jonathan Hyde, and Owen Wilson. The plot revolved around a documentary team venturing into the treacherous Amazon rainforest in search of the elusive, colossal, and deadly green anaconda. Unfortunately, it didn’t receive rave reviews from critics, and its box office performance wasn’t stellar. However, over time, “Anaconda” transformed into a cult favorite and even birthed a franchise, including “Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid” (2004), “Anaconda 3: Offspring” (2008), “Anacondas: Trail of Blood” (2009), and the intriguing crossover film, “Lake Placid vs. Anaconda” (2015). In this last film, we witnessed a fascinating blend with the “Lake Placid” series, where researchers stumbled upon a colossal crocodile lurking in a remote Maine lake.

Under the guidance of director Tom Gormican, featuring Paul Rudd and Jack Black, the movie titled Anaconda is set to uncoil in cinemas on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025.
