Masters of the Universe Movie Adds Jared Leto as Iconic Villain

As a child of the ’80s, I can vividly remember the thrill of Masters of the Universe and its iconic characters. The news that this beloved franchise is finally making its way to the big screen has me positively giddy with excitement!

After a long period of anticipation, it appears that Masters of the Universe is finally set to make its way onto the big screen, with reality drawing nearer as four key roles have been filled. As per a recent update from Deadline, Jared Leto (famous for his role in House of Gucci) has officially secured the part of He-Man’s arch-nemesis and mastermind villain Skeletor, while Sam C. Wilson (House of the Dragon) will portray Trap Jaw. Hafthor Bjornsson (The Northman) is set to play Goat Man, and Kojo Attah (In The Grey) has been cast as Tri-Klops.

With Alison Brie now cast as the evil sorceress Evil-Lyn, the villainous faction in the film seems to be fully assembled, comprising Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Trap Jaw, Tri-Klops, and Goat Man. It’s a bit unusual that Beast Man isn’t part of the main lineup yet, but there’s always a possibility he could join later on.

The main characters of the film are gradually being assembled, with Nicholas Galitzine stepping into the role of our hero, akin to He-Man. Idris Elba has also been cast as Man-At-Arms, his trusted companion. Previously this year, it was announced that Camila Mendes (from Riverdale) will portray Teela. At present, only the character of Orko remains unconfirmed for the hero’s side.

Julie Rapaport, the head of film production and development at Amazon MGM Studios, is overjoyed about Nicholas Galitzine taking on the famous role. She expressed her joy by saying, “We’re ecstatic to bring the cherished Masters of the Universe to the big screen, and we can’t help but be thrilled to reveal that the exceptionally talented Nicholas Galitzine will portray our He-Man. This new interpretation of the character and his world promises to be an epic film that will captivate audiences from Earth all the way to Eternia.

It’s an intriguing selection that Jared Leto will portray Skeletor, and next year, he will appear in another significant franchise, Disney’s Tron: Ares. Additionally, you can catch him in Lunik Heist, and negotiations are ongoing for him to join the JFK film Assassination. Jared Leto’s Skeletor will make his cinematic debut when Masters of the Universe is released on June 5th, 2026.

The upcoming “Masters of the Universe” movie is under the direction of Travis Knight (known for “Bumblebee”), with a script penned by Chris Butler. An early version of the screenplay was originally written by David Callaham and the Nee brothers, Aaron and Adam.

The studio’s summary hints at several aspects carried over from the original series, and indeed, quite a few elements are retained. The narrative focuses on a 10-year-old Prince Adam who experiences an unexpected crash landing on Earth in a spaceship. Separated from the Power Sword, he spends two years searching for it before finally locating it. This discovery then propels him back to his home planet where he must fight against Skeletor and his troops. To protect his home and fulfill this mission, Adam will need to transform into the mighty He-Man, the most powerful individual in the universe.
