One Piece Confirms Franky’s New Voice Actor

After following Franky’s journey for over two decades, I must say that Kazuki Yao has been the heart and soul of the character, giving us laughs, tears, and everything in between. As someone who grew up with Franky’s antics and his unforgettable voice, it’s bittersweet to see him step down.

Following two decades of bringing beloved characters like Franky, Bon Clay, and Jango from the series “One Piece” to life, Kazuki Yao recently announced his decision to step down as the voice of Franky, the Straw Hats’ cyborg shipwright. This news has left many fans feeling disappointed. However, at Jump Festa, they provided a fitting farewell for Kazuki Yao and also introduced the new voice actor for Franky.

At Jump Festa 2025, it was revealed that Subaru Kimura will step into the shoes of Franky in the popular series One Piece. This change is expected to occur during the resumption of the Egghead Arc in April 2025. It’s exciting news for fans as they will soon hear Subaru Kimura bring Franky to life. Notably, Subaru Kimura has previously provided voices for Aoi Todo in Jujutsu Kaisen, Satori Tendo in Haikyuu, and the younger version of Buggy in One Piece.

Subaru Kimura Takes Over the Mantle As Franky in One Piece‘s Anime

Since the character of Jango made an appearance as early as Episode 9, and left fans and even creator Oda amazed at his debut as Bon Clay in Episode 78, Kazuki Yao has been lending his voice to unforgettable characters within One Piece since 2001. He later assumed the permanent role of Franky starting from 2005.

For the past twenty years, Yao’s voice has been nearly identified with the character he voiced, making it challenging for Subaru Kimura to step into his shoes as a successor. This challenge is heightened since it is rumored that Oda designed Franky’s character around Yao’s distinctive voice.

It’s clear that Subaru Kimura is eager to step into this role and is expected to put in a lot of effort. However, whether he can replicate Franky’s unique mannerisms with the same charisma as Yao remains to be seen. At Jump Festa, there was a sweet instance where Yao taught Subaru how to say Franky’s signature pose and catchphrase. It seems that Subura is quickly picking up on these nuances. Regardless, now that Franky’s role in the anime has been cast, it won’t be long before fans grow accustomed to this change.
