As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but reminisce about the golden era of original IPs that once graced our screens. From the gritty streets of Riddick’s Butcher Bay to the futuristic battles of Helldivers, these games were more than just a brand; they were an experience, a journey into new worlds and stories that captivated us.
Despite the lightness of triple-A releases this year, there have been some exceptional standalone titles, including “Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree”, a remake of “Silent Hill 2”, and both “Astro Bot” and “Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth”. Nevertheless, there are several elements that we’d love to see return in single-player AAA games, regardless of feasibility. Here are 15 things that we believe could enhance the gaming experience.
More Original IPs
Original ideas can sometimes get a bit mixed up as it’s okay to adapt established properties for innovative gaming experiences. For instance, instead of creating something like “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League“, more games along the lines of “Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay” or “Escape from Dark Athena” would be preferable. Even “Helldivers 2” draws inspiration from “Starship Troopers“, but manages to create a distinct and original gameplay experience.
