Gintama Creator Honors Sakamoto Days With New Parody

As a long-time enthusiast of manga and anime, I can confidently say that the news about the upcoming projects for Gintama is nothing short of exhilarating! The blend of action, comedy, and unique settings in this series has always captivated me, and it’s heartening to see it continue to evolve.

Gintama, a renowned action comedy manga series, started publication in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 2003. Despite having wrapped up its manga run in 2019, the anime adaptation keeps unveiling fresh projects. The main narrative is set in an alternate version of Edo-era Japan where extraterrestrial beings, called Amanto, have taken over Earth. Once revered as the Land of Samurai, Japan now finds itself under alien rule, leaving traditional samurais to lead bleak lives. In this world, there’s a fascinating fusion of sci-fi and feudal settings, thanks to the advanced technology brought by the aliens.

As an avid fan, I can’t contain my excitement about the latest updates on the highly anticipated Shonen anime and manga series! Jump Festa 2025 has dropped some tantalizing news that has me buzzing. The big reveal is that Gintama’s spin-off series, 3rd Year Class Z Ginpachi-Sensei, is set to hit our screens in October 2025! This series promises a fresh take as it follows the character of Ginpachi Sakata, who looks strikingly like Gintoki, in his new role as a teacher at Gintama High School. But that’s not all! Amidst this thrilling announcement, the creator of Gintama, Hideaki Sorachi, has teased us with a brand-new parody for an upcoming anime titled Sakamoto Days. The anticipation is real, folks!

Gintama Creator Shares New Parody Sketch of “Sakata Days”

I, an observer, noticed Sorachi skillfully sketch a captivating rendition of characters from “Sakamoto Days”. He reimagined Gintoki as Taro Sakamoto, mirroring Taro’s pose but with a dessert instead of ramen in his hand. Shinpachi was portrayed as Shin Asakura, wielding a paper fan rather than a gun in the original depiction. The most striking alteration is that Kagura was dressed as Xiotang Lu, a character not present on the Volume 1 cover.

In his communication, Sorachi touches upon the theme of reunion as a parody. He expresses, “In any case, it brings me immense joy that these three individuals managed to unite on stage this year, not leaving anyone out. Frankly speaking, I wouldn’t want the year to pass without witnessing these three people.

In the parody, “Tomokazu Sugita portrays Sakata, a man who was once an assassin, now in his old age. Shinpachi, a nearly worthless boy, and Kagura, a Chinese girl who primarily communicates with Al, are also characters. The series, “SAKATADAYS”, revolves around these three spending time together.

After much anticipation, he announces the upcoming anime series, “Sakamoto Days”, saying, “The anime will debut in January, and I found myself unable to resist sketching it as I eagerly awaited its release. I’m worried I might do something impulsive and catch flack from the anime crew. Keep an eye out for Sakata Shoten’s triumph. By the way, is Ginpachi anime set to begin in October? I don’t care about anything else after that.

According to Yuto Suzuki’s manga, the anime adaptation of “Sakamoto Days” is set to premiere on January 11th, 2025. This series will be available only on Netflix. The story revolves around Taro Sakamoto, who was once a renowned assassin but gave up his dangerous lifestyle after getting married five years before the story begins. He now leads a peaceful life with his family, but trouble from his past rears its head and he must confront it again to safeguard his loved ones.
