Tia Mowry Details "Lonely" Parenting Journey After Cory Hardrict Split

The former star of “Sister, Sister” openly discussed the challenges she faces during this phase, particularly as a single parent to her son Cree (age 13) and daughter Cairo (age 6), since her separation from ex-husband Cory Hardrict in 2022 after 14 years of marriage.

Tia shared on Instagram on December 23rd: “Managing co-parenting during the holidays is an adventure,” she wrote next to multiple photos of her children amidst Christmas decorations, “an odyssey that encompasses a range of feelings. It’s not like anything you’ve experienced before, and it can indeed be daunting and sometimes isolating, particularly when you’re adapting to a novel family setup.

In spite of its challenges, she expressed that she’s discovered an inherent beauty within it. This situation, she explained, provides her children the opportunity to foster significant connections with both parents, while simultaneously allowing for personal growth, healing, and revitalization.

Tia added, “Admittedly, as a single mom, I sometimes carry the burden because our family isn’t like others’. But here’s the truth: different doesn’t equate to inferior. What truly matters is preserving our traditions for my kids, so they understand that despite appearances, we are still very much a family.

Tia concluded her post by advising other coparents to make “memorable moments” for their children during the holidays, regardless of the circumstances.

After her divorce from Cory, Tia has candidly discussed the challenges of change, particularly concerning the fact that she and her siblings – Tamera Mowry-Housley, Tahj Mowry, and Tavior Mowry – no longer share the same level of closeness as before.

I want to emphasize that I continue to lean on my family and friends for support during challenging times, just as I always have.

She noted that change can be incredibly daunting yet stunningly beautiful at the same time. Moreover, remember that during these transformative periods in life, you’re never alone. There are communities, families, friends, and sources of support to lean on.

Following the completion of her divorce with Cory Hardrict in April 2023, Tia Mowry pondered over her freshly single phase.

In the year 2008, Tia and Cory got married and subsequently had two kids of their own. Their firstborn, a son named Cree, arrived in 2011, while their second child, daughter Cairo, was born in 2018.

However, by the year 2022, the pair parted ways. In her divorce papers, Tia mentioned “unresolvable disagreements” as the cause of their separation. Later on, she revealed the moment when she realized that her union with Cory had come to an end.

In a November 2022 episode of Today, the Sister, Sister alum expressed that it was clear to her when she began prioritizing her own happiness. She noted that women often concentrate on ensuring others are happy – family, friends, and children. However, she emphasized the importance of self-love and recognizing one’s worth. As one embarks on this personal journey of self-discovery and growth, an awakening occurs, although it is challenging. In her words, it is a difficult yet rewarding path.

In addition to the factors she was considering, Tia took into account how the divorce would impact Cree and Cairo. She expressed this in a June 2023 interview with HelloBeautiful: “An important aspect of my decision was for them. I believe it’s essential for them to witness their mother standing firm on truth. This situation wasn’t easy, and it was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make in my life. But if they see that mommy can do it, that mommy, despite what others may say or doubt, pushed through, they will realize that my mommy is living her truth and pursuing it. My hope is that one day, they too will find their own paths.

She mentioned, ‘I hope my kids follow that path,’ she said. ‘This is the most valuable present I can offer them. I don’t wish for them to mimic the life I envision for them, or the life society expects of them, or the life they believe they should live. Instead, I want them to understand it’s alright to have tough days. I want them to learn that chasing happiness is acceptable. I want them to realize it’s okay to express their authentic selves.’

Even though Tia and Tamera have been entertaining fans for many years, it seems they don’t spend as much time together off-camera anymore. This is something Tia mentioned in a preview of “Tia Mowry: My Next Act” from September. She admitted that being alone has been the hardest part of her divorce. During moments like these, she wishes she could call Tamera for support, but their relationship isn’t as close as it once was at the moment.

Tia simply expressed, “Our lives have taken separate paths now, due to differences in location, families, and personal desires.” Later, a source close to the matter explained that although they are sisters, Tamera resides in Napa while Tia calls Los Angeles home. In early October, Tia further clarified her statement, acknowledging that their physical separation brings both beauty and challenge in maintaining their bond.

It came as a surprise when Tia announced her return to reality TV, even though it was the fans who learned about it first. Tamera shared this with Entertainment Tonight in May 2024, saying, “I didn’t know. I discovered it alongside the rest of the world.” Regarding a possible appearance on Tia’s show, Tamera stated, “She didn’t ask me, so I assume not.” However, Tamera seemed accepting of this situation, expressing, “She said, ‘This is my story.’ I can only respect that.” Tia also defended her decision not to inform Tamera in advance, stating it was normal not to share everything and that they each live their own lives independently.

The siblings have discussed their highs and lows on prior occasions. On their old reality show, “Tia & Tamera,” which aired from 2011 to 2013, they even attended a counseling session to improve their communication. As Tamera put it on an episode of “The Real” in 2019, their differences necessitated learning to communicate effectively for the betterment of both parties because she is sensitive and her sister is assertive.

As a twin, it was inevitable for people to compare me with my sister Tia. This was something I grew up with, and it’s just how things were, as she explained in a YouTube video from January 2024. People’s brains naturally want to compare twins, looking for differences: ‘Oh, this twin has a fuller face. This twin is thinner. One has a mole. One has a more outgoing personality. One is a bit more reserved.’

Similar to how Tia has shared her experiences with Cory, Tamera has offered insights into her relationship with husband Adam Housley. Although she refers to him as “the love of my life,” like any partnership, they encounter periods of joy and struggle.

Occasionally, it’s good to inquire, “Are you content, dear?” Tamera, who co-parents Aden and Ariah with Adam, added. “What can we do to maintain our joy? I don’t just want to be together for a long period, but I aspire for a long, happy marriage.

After over a dozen years of marriage, it appears Tamera and Adam continue to maintain an exciting relationship, as demonstrated by their shared approach to keeping things fresh. As expressed by Tamera on The Jennifer Hudson Show in 2022, maintaining a satisfying marriage involves setting sexual goals and having open conversations about them. In her memoir You Should Sit Down for This, she even outlined a list of locations where she desires to experience intimacy, such as atop a skyscraper, in a car during rainstorms, and in every room of their home.

She shared with the media outlet, “I aim to break free from traditional stereotypes.” In other words, she encourages people to embrace their identity, enjoy their intimate relationships, and not let long-term marriage dampen their passion.

Tamera has gotten real about her first four years on The Real.

“It was one of the unhappiest times of my life,” she wrote in her memoir while discussing the commute, the grind and public scrutiny. “I suffered horrible anxiety, I’d throw up in my dressing room, I drank way too much.”

Still, Tamera has many fond memories from her seven years on the show, too—which she reflected on while announcing her departure from cohosting in 2020.

“The friendships that I’ve made there will last a lifetime, and the people that I’ve had the blessing to interview have changed my life for the better,” she wrote in part of an Instagram post at the time. “I’m so proud of what all the ladies and I have accomplished there, including two well-deserved NAACP Image Awards and a Daytime Emmy.”
