My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Anime Shares First Look at The Crawler & More

As an avid anime enthusiast with over two decades of immersion in the world of manga and animation, I must say that the upcoming “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes” has piqued my curiosity like no other spinoff series in recent memory. Having followed the original “My Hero Academia” since its inception, I find myself intrigued by this prequel’s promise of delving into a different era and exploring the world of unlicensed heroes.

2025 promises an exciting year for “My Hero Academia” fans, as we’re on the verge of witnessing the full TV anime debut of its spinoff series, “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes,” next spring. To build anticipation, glimpses of characters like Crawler, Pop Step, and Knuckleduster have been unveiled. Meanwhile, the main TV anime series is set to return for its eighth and final season in fall 2025. The prequel spinoff series will surely add another layer to the rich history of “My Hero Academia,” with its unique cast of dynamic heroes taking center stage.

In “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes”, the story takes place five years prior to the main series events. Unlike the hero society portrayed in the primary series, this time period shows a less populated hero community, which results in certain Japanese regions being unprotected and neglected. Consequently, new vigilantes, or unlicensed heroes, such as The Crawler, Pop Step, and Knuckleduster, emerge to handle matters themselves, as seen in the video above’s first trailer.

Who Are My Hero Academia’s Vigilante Heroes?

In the series “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes,” fans meet Koichi Haimawari, who hadn’t envisioned himself as a hero but chose to assist in his community as The Crawler. Wearing his beloved All Might hoodie (since he and Izuku Midoriya both admire the top hero), Koichi initially aimed at simple tasks such as removing trash and offering directions for the betterment of his neighborhood. However, his peaceful plans took an unexpected turn when he encountered the enigmatic Knuckleduster.

In this rephrased version: This elderly man transforms into a mentor for our protagonist in his crusade against wrongdoers and lawbreakers, using only his bare knuckles. He’s unlike any character from the initial My Hero Academia series, eventually dragging Koichi into more complicated issues. Meanwhile, Pop Step is an underground artist who employs her quirk to stage clandestine concerts, aspiring to become a successful entertainer. However, much like Koichi, she doesn’t take long before getting involved in dealing with greater dangers than they might have anticipated.

When Is My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Coming Out?

The popular manga series My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, penned by Hideyuki Furuhashi with art by Betten Court, is set to premiere in its entirety as a full TV anime production during the Spring 2025 schedule. Kenichi Suzuki will direct this new adaptation for Studio Bones’ newly established Bones Film division, while Yosuke Kuroda reprises his role from the main My Hero Academia TV series to write the scripts. Takahiko Yoshida will supervise the character designs, and a collaboration between Yuki Hayashi, Shogo Yamashiro, and Yuki Furuhashi will produce the music for this upcoming anime.

As of now, no specific launch date has been announced for “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes”. However, you can prepare yourself by reading the original manga series beforehand, as it’s already fully released with more than 120 chapters available. You can access this extensive collection through Viz Media’s digital Shonen Jump library with a paid subscription. Given that “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes” is laying the groundwork for significant future events in “My Hero Academia”, fans will definitely want to stay tuned for updates on it.
