It Just Got Harder to Watch Nickelodeon’s Classic Shows

As someone who grew up with Nickelodeon as a staple of my childhood, it’s hard not to feel a pang of nostalgia when seeing yet another batch of shows disappear from Paramount+. It seems like every time I log in, I find less and less of the content that defined my youth. It’s like visiting an old friend’s house only to find that they’ve moved away, leaving behind nothing but memories and a few dusty relics.

It’s becoming increasingly challenging to access some of Nickelodeon’s classic shows as they are being taken off streaming services, with even more set to disappear by 2025. Fans have already noticed changes in Paramount+’s library, as popular classics like “Doug” and “My Life As a Teenage Robot,” along with newer hits such as “Breadwinners” and “Game Shakers,” were recently removed from the service. Unfortunately, it seems that there will be further removals in the future.

On December 23rd, as pointed out by @ToonHive, additional Nickelodeon shows have been taken off Paramount+. This latest round of removals includes popular animated series like “Sanjay and Craig”, more kid-friendly content such as “Ni Hao Kai-lan”, and live-action shows including “Big Time Rush”. The scale of these deletions suggests a significant shift in Nickelodeon’s role within Paramount as a whole.

Nickelodeon Shows Removed From Paramount+

The latest batch of Nickelodeon removals from Paramount+ include the likes of:

  • ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks
  • Blue’s Room
  • Big Time Rush
  • Face’s Music Party
  • Fanboy & Chum Chum
  • Ni Hao, Kai-Lan
  • Oobi
  • Sanjay & Craig
  • The Upside Down Show
  • Tot Cop

Although this list may not initially catch the attention of Nickelodeon enthusiasts regarding Paramount+’s updated streaming collection, it mirrors the extensive list of recent deletions, which occurred only a few days prior and featured several titles such as:

  • AmesomenessTV
  • Breadwinners
  • Doug
  • Game Shakers
  • House of Anubis
  • Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness
  • Let’s Just Play: Go Healthy Challenge
  • My Life As A Teenage Robot
  • The Penguins of Madagascar
  • Welcome to the Wayne
  • Wonder Pets
  • Zoofari

It’s somewhat disheartening to see so many beloved Nickelodeon shows departing from Hulu, and this trend is expected to continue. As of January 1st, 2025, iconic series like “Hey Arnold!”, “Rugrats”, “The Thundermans”, and “Drake & Josh” will no longer be available on the platform. Although these may not seem like significant losses in the grand context of Nickelodeon’s history, they serve as a clear signal of a broader, more concerning pattern.

What’s Happening to Nickelodeon on Paramount+?

Since Paramount+ is the only platform streaming many Nickelodeon shows, it has become more challenging for fans of those specific series to watch them. Apart from potentially acquiring DVDs or other home media releases (which are becoming scarce as stores like Best Buy phase out physical media), it’s getting harder to find legal ways to watch these series.

It appears that the non-renewal of licenses for several shows on Nickelodeon suggests a possible decrease in focus for Nickelodeon content on Paramount+. While many classic hits remain accessible, the absence of series like Doug could signal more significant changes to come in Nickelodeon’s streaming strategy as early as 2025 and beyond. This shift might initially involve the removal of less popular shows, but it could potentially extend to more prominent content down the line.

Perhaps the issues with the missing shows on Paramount+ will improve in the upcoming year since it could simply be a part of the service’s internal reorganization. It’s uncertain, as we move forward into the next year and beyond, whether these removed shows might return to their streaming library at some point in the future.
