As a die-hard Nintendo fan with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement! The latest Switch 2 rumor has me on the edge of my seat, especially considering the leaker’s impressive track record. If this mysterious countdown is indeed related to the Switch 2, then January 8th could be the long-awaited day we finally get official word from Nintendo.
A recent speculation about the Nintendo Switch 2 has hinted at the possible announcement date for this console. Previously, many Nintendo enthusiasts anticipated that a new model would debut in 2024. However, as 2024 has passed without any substantial revelations beyond a general confirmation of development, it seems that we’ve missed out on the unveiling. On a positive note, it appears that we won’t have to wait too much longer for the Switch 2 to be officially disclosed.
Based on information leaked on the Chinese site Weibo, a countdown has commenced which appears connected to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. This countdown started on December 21st and ends on January 8th, 2025. This timing suggests that on January 8th, Nintendo may officially unveil the Switch 2 to the general public.
Although it may sound unusual to believe this rumor entirely, there’s a possibility it could be true due to the leaker’s past record of accuracy. In fact, back in June 2024, this same leaker revealed Nintendo’s entire Direct presentation before it was publicly available online. Given this background, it appears that the leaker has connections within Nintendo and may have access to information about their plans for revealing the Switch 2.
Currently, there’s strong evidence suggesting that Nintendo Switch 2 will be unveiled by the end of March 2025 at the latest. Nintendo has made this clear on numerous occasions in 2024, stating they plan to reveal the hardware before their current fiscal year ends. Therefore, while a January 8th announcement might not happen, it’s unlikely that we’ll wait much longer for the big reveal.
As of now, we don’t have any official information about the Nintendo Switch 2. Neither has Nintendo confirmed that “Switch 2” is its actual name, nor have they provided a launch date or details about potential games for the platform. However, if a recent speculation proves true, it seems like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond might also be designed for native play on the Nintendo Switch 2.
