As a seasoned gamer with over three decades under my belt, I must say I’ve seen quite a few twists and turns in the gaming industry, but the saga of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl has to be one of the most intriguing ones yet.
It appears that the prospect of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl appearing on PlayStation 5 in the immediate future seems unlikely, as confirmed by director Ievgen Grygorovych. The team at developer GSC Game World are only focusing on the Xbox and PC versions of the game right now. STALKER 2 is one of the key console exclusives for Xbox in 2024, with releases currently limited to Xbox Series X/S and PC systems.
Ever since its launch on November 20th, STALKER 2 has taken off like a rocket, seeing impressive sales and player numbers surge rapidly. A good chunk of this success can be attributed to the long-awaited release, as the game was first announced in 2010. The high demand for this post-apocalyptic FPS has been quite remarkable. In fact, within a month of its debut, GSC Game World, the creators of STALKER, managed to earn enough revenue from the game to turn a profit. Despite being exclusive to Xbox consoles, there have been whispers among players about a potential PS5 release. However, those hopes might have been dampened, at least temporarily, by recent statements from the Ukrainian studio.
In a recent interview with Tech4Gamers, Grygorovych provided a somewhat disheartening response when inquired about the possibility of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl coming to PS5. Instead of directly addressing the question, he stated that GSC Game World has been dedicating all their efforts to first creating and now maintaining the PC and Xbox versions. When pressed about the speculation surrounding a three-month Xbox exclusivity for the horror game and its potential PlayStation release, the lead of STALKER 2 emphasized that they prefer not to discuss “leaks, rumors, or speculations.” He further clarified that the developer is only working on the versions currently available on their platforms.
STALKER 2 Developer Remains Tight-Lipped on a Possible PS5 Port
It appears that the director of STALKER 2 seems uninterested in discussing the possibility of the game appearing on PlayStation. This indicates a stark contrast with the handling of another significant Xbox exclusive, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which was announced for PS5 prior to its release on Xbox and PC. Since this decision did not please some Xbox fans, it’s been suggested that Microsoft might be reconsidering its strategy to make major games available on multiple platforms too quickly.
Though Grygorovych’s team isn’t currently working on a PS5 version, they’ve got their work cut out for them due to the numerous technical issues that arose during the initial launch of the latest STALKER game. Since its release, they’ve been releasing substantial updates aimed at improving player experience, with the most recent one addressing almost 2,000 bugs. Given the developers’ statements, it appears that they are focusing on delivering more substantial updates in the near future rather than any potential PS port at this time.
