TV schedule and listings for 26th December

Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical – 5:45pm, BBC One

In 2022, a movie was made that brings to life Tim Minchin’s musical interpretation of the beloved Roald Dahl book, Matilda. The film features the acting talents of Emma Thompson, Lashana Lynch, Stephen Graham, and Andrea Riseborough.

As a passionate cinephile, I find myself captivated by Alisha Weir’s portrayal of Matilda Wormwood, a young girl endowed with an extraordinary imagination, saddled with the world’s most unfit parents, and finding solace in the pages of books. When she enrolls at Crunchem Hall, I witness firsthand how this oppressive institution is ruled by the wicked Miss Trunchbull. However, Matilda’s spirit remains unbroken, compelling her to fight for justice and teach Miss Trunchbull a lesson she’ll never forget.

Call the Midwife Christmas special part 2 – 7:30pm, BBC One

In the continuation of the Call the Midwife holiday episode, we’ll carry on directly from where part one ended, leaving viewers eagerly awaiting the answer to the suspenseful cliffhanger.

In the upcoming second half of the special series, it appears that Shelagh will assist a struggling family fighting against severe poverty. Meanwhile, Rosalind encounters an escaped criminal, and there may be romantic developments for Nancy. The creator of the show, Heidi Thomas, mentioned that this two-part special offers a chance to deliver more of what fans adore – a blend of warmth, sorrow, and happiness that characterizes the series.

The Masked Singer Christmas special – 7:30pm, ITV1

Once more, the popular celebrity singing competition/game show is being hosted by Joel Dommett, with returning panelists Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan. In this episode, they are joined by Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders as four celebrities participate, disguised in holiday-themed attire for a festive twist.

In this unique competition, Christmas Cracker, Star, Turkey Crown, and Nutcracker (all wearing masks) are fighting for victory. However, there can only be one winner, the champion, as a team of investigators work diligently to reveal their holiday-themed identities.

Blankety Blank Christmas special – 9pm, BBC One

I’m thrilled to be part of the Christmas special of the widely-adored BBC One game show, hosted by none other than the charismatic Bradley Walsh! This year, he’s bringing a fresh batch of celebrities to share in the joy and competition. Can’t wait to see what fun we’ll have together!

Participating in this event are Jane McDonald (from Loose Women), Oti Mabuse (from Strictly Come Dancing), Joel Dommett (from The Masked Singer), broadcaster Jonathan Ross, comedian Sara Pascoe, and The Vivienne (from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. They all lend their support to contestants as they strive to win fantastic awards.

The 1% Club Christmas special – 9pm, ITV1

In this special holiday season, we’ll continue with more exciting rounds of our popular trivia game, once again featuring Lee Mack as your entertaining host.

Typically, the upcoming event offers contestants the chance to win the Grand Prize and join the exclusive 1% Club – by answering a question that only one percent of the global population can correctly answer, thereby proving their exceptional intelligence compared to 99% of the world’s population.

Outnumbered Christmas special – 9:40pm, BBC One

After an eight-year hiatus from the holiday specials, Hugh Dennis, Claire Skinner, Tyger Drew-Honey, Daniel Roche, and Ramona Marquez are back for another installment of the cherished parenting comedy we all love.

In their recently acquired smaller home, Sue and Pete are rounding up their kids, along with one grandchild, for an attempt at a classic family Christmas celebration, following a traditional style.

As the family grapples with an unwelcome long-term visitor, Jake balances his work from home responsibilities along with caring for his lively three-year-old son; Ben is organizing a major expedition; and Karen finds herself discontented on multiple fronts, both personally and professionally.
