Stalker 2 devs shut down PS5 port rumours as team focuses on fixing PC and Xbox versions

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must confess that the news about Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl being a timed exclusive for Xbox Series and PC has left me somewhat disheartened. Having grown up on PlayStation consoles, I’ve always had a soft spot for Sony’s gaming ecosystem, and this decision seems to be a bit of a blow.

Initially available only on Xbox Series and PC, GSC Game World’s Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is presently a timed exclusive for Microsoft’s console. Contrary to what some gamers expected, the developers have disclosed that at this moment, they do not intend to release the game on PlayStation 5.

Despite some mixed reception and initial issues upon release, we found Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl quite enjoyable. However, it came with significant problems. A recent update significantly enhanced its NPC simulation (Artificial Life), but the studio has pledged additional fixes and even plans to reintegrate previously removed content into the game. Unfortunately, a PlayStation 5 version is not currently in their plans.

Stalker 2 PS5 port shut down

During an interview with Tech4Gamers, Stalker 2’s Game Director, Ievgen Grygorovych, shared that currently, there are no immediate plans for a PlayStation 5 version of the game. In his conversation with the publication, he clarified that the game was specifically designed and is being supported exclusively for PC and Xbox Series X/S platforms at this time.

During the interview, they also inquired about the whispers surrounding Stalker 2 potentially being timed exclusive to Xbox consoles. Although it hasn’t been validated, there are rumors suggesting a three-month exclusivity for the Series S and Series X. Yet, GSC Game World is keeping tight-lipped about whether these claims hold water.

“We do not comment on leaks, rumors, or speculations. Again, the PC and Xbox Series X/S versions of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 are the only ones we have developed and are supporting,” Grygorovych explained.

Eventually?

It’s looking increasingly likely that Stalker 2 will appear on PS5, given that Xbox exclusives are now also available on PlayStation. Even Indiana Jones and The Great Circle are heading to the PlayStation 5, suggesting that GSC Game World’s survival game might not have very stringent exclusivity agreements.

Despite earning profits from its initial limited launch on PC and Xbox, GSC Game World might leisurely work on bringing Stalker 2 to PS5, should that occur. Regardless of the timeline, Stalker 2 has already proven itself as an exciting game.
