As an avid fan who has traversed through the fantastical realms of Akira Toriyama’s creations since the dawn of the Dragon Ball era, it is a sheer delight to observe the masterful weaving of his past works into the tapestry of the latest installment, Dragon Ball Daima. The subtle nod to Arale-chan and her iconic “Ncha!” in the introduction of Majin Duu is reminiscent of the playful crossover between Dragon Ball Super and Dr. Slump, a testament to Toriyama’s ability to seamlessly blend his worlds while maintaining their distinct identities.
As an observer, I can’t help but marvel at the vast creativity of Akira Toriyama, who is undeniably renowned for his groundbreaking work on the Dragon Ball franchise. Yet, it’s essential to remember that this legendary artist has a rich tapestry of creations beyond just Dragon Ball. For instance, he breathed life into new adversaries within Sand Land, a Dragon Ball spin-off series in Jaco The Galactic Patrolman, and even crafted a witty take on the Z-Fighters in the sometimes overlooked Neko Majin. Even in the latest installment of Dragon Ball Daima, a series directly penned by Toriyama himself, there was a subtle nod to one of Akira’s most significant stories that surprisingly didn’t feature Goku and his companions.
If you haven’t been around when Majin Duu was brought into existence, he was made much like his brother, Majin Kuu. The evil Dr. Anisu is seeking a formidable henchman to snatch the Dragon Balls from the Demon Realm for her own purposes. Finding that Kuu wasn’t quite up to the task of taking down the Tamagami, Anisu and Marba decided to rethink their strategy. By incorporating more of Majin Buu’s power and planting the Saibamen seed deeper into the earth, they created a subordinate far stronger than Kuu. However, it remains to be seen if Majin Duu will eventually overcome the Tamagami.

Dr. Slump Returns
When Majin Duu makes his debut, spawned from a fusion of dark, demonic energies, he lets out a booming “Ncha!” This exclamation is reminiscent of Arale-chan, a well-known character from Dr. Slump. Given Akira Toriyama’s significant impact on Dragon Ball prior to his passing, it wouldn’t be surprising if he intended to include such nods to the past in the new anime series.
The Dragon Ball x Dr. Slump Crossover
In the 69th episode of Dragon Ball Super, viewers got a laugh when two worlds created by Akira Toriyama collided. The episode, titled “Goku vs. Arale! A Battle That Could End the World?!”, features Goku squaring off against Arale, an android character, in a fight that could potentially destroy the planet. Despite her innocent appearance, Arale is far from harmless as she came close to defeating both Goku and Vegeta without even trying. In fact, Arale even used her “Ncha Cannon” to counter Goku’s Kamehameha.
In “Dragon Ball Daimao”, we’re only halfway through the new anime series, so there could be many more references to Akira Toriyama’s previous works ahead. With the latest villains being a fusion of Majin Buu and Saibamen, this series promises a storyline where unexpected events might occur at any moment. Although Kuu and Duu may not be as powerful as their predecessor, Majin Buu, it seems that the Z-Fighters are going to face significant battles against them in the future, given their current power reductions.
