The fact that they’ve managed to gather such an impressive lineup of veterans from the Super Sentai series is nothing short of spectacular.

One of the richest genres in the anime market right now is Isekai, where it seems like almost every major release follows an unremarkable protagonist being transported into a fantasy realm. To distinguish their Isekai from others, creators are coming up with creative angles. Author Koyoshi Nakayoshi chose to blend Isekai with Super Sentai in the manga “The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World”. Instead of introducing an ordinary character into a new world, this manga revolves around Togo Asahaki, who is actually Kizuna Red from a superhero team on his planet. The series openly celebrates its affection for Super Sentai/Power Rangers, offering a heartfelt homage to the franchise.

In an exciting twist for fans of both Super Sentai and Power Rangers, the upcoming anime adaptation by Satelight will emphasize the connections between these two iconic series by featuring actors from the Super Sentai series in key roles. Specifically, actors Masaya Matsukaza, Mika Kikuchi, Dai Tsuchida, and Arisa Komiya have been cast as the squadmates of Kizuna Red. Notably, all four actors have previously portrayed rangers in Super Sentai, lending an extra layer of meta appeal to their performances. Interestingly, while Kizuna Red is not played by a veteran of the Super Sentai series, he will be voiced by actor Tomoya Ito. Satelight has also revealed a new poster showcasing the Kizuna team and their giant mecha. The anime adaptation is slated to premiere on January 12th, 2025.

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World Unites Super Sentai Talent Across Decades

The story, titled “The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World“, primarily follows Kizuna Red’s journey through a new world alongside his new companions. This shift in focus means that the series will delve deeper into Red’s adventures in a fantasy realm, rather than focusing on the Kizuna team as a collective unit. However, it is important to note that the Kizuna team significantly influences Red’s past and are expected to make occasional appearances in the anime, particularly in the initial episodes.

Matsukaze assumes the role of the Blue Ranger within the team, and is recognized for his portrayal of the same character in Denji Sentai Megaranger. The Megaranger scenes were reworked into Power Rangers in Space. Kikuchi takes on the Kizuna Yellow Ranger; prior to this, she was the Pink Ranger in Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, which became Power Rangers SPD. Tsuchida lends his voice to the Kizuna Green Ranger. Previously, he played the Blue Ranger in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, a series that served as the basis for the third season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Lastly, Arisa Komiya will embody the Kizuna Pink Ranger. She previously starred as the Yellow Ranger in Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters, which was transformed into Power Rangers Beast Morphers.

Nakayoshi’s work is currently leading the way by reimagining the Super Sentai genre within manga and anime in a unique and innovative manner. The manga series “Love After World Domination” tells the story of a Red Ranger falling for the main villainess, while “Go! Go! Loser Ranger!” offers a dark twist on the Power Rangers formula by focusing on a solitary evil foot soldier attempting to join a corrupt Super Sentai team. Both mangas have been successfully adapted into anime, with “The Red Ranger’s Adventure in Another World” being the latest one to receive a high-profile adaptation.
