As a long-time aficionado of manga and anime, I must admit that the epilogue of Uraume in Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 30 was a delightful surprise! While Uraume may not have been a central character, their relationship with Sukuna has always intrigued me. The four-page epilogue, focusing on their first meeting during the Heian Era, offered a unique perspective into the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen’s history.
The scene where young Uraume is found lying in front of their parents’ corpses, frozen solid, immediately caught my attention. It was a poignant moment that set the stage for Sukuna’s entry into Uraume’s life. The revelation that Uraume became not only Sukuna’s subordinate but also his cook was an amusing twist, especially given Sukuna’s cannibalistic tendencies!
The epilogue also shed light on the dynamic between Uraume and Sukuna, which has always been fascinating. Despite being a minor antagonist, their bond seemed strong, with Uraume remaining loyal to Sukuna even after death. It was heartwarming to see Uraume holding Sukuna’s hand and walking away, just like in Chapter 271.
Now, let me share a little joke with you all – it seems that even in the Heian Era, there were no-shows for dinner! I guess Sukuna and Uraume had their own version of “It’s always someone else’s turn to cook.” It just goes to show that some things never change, even in a world filled with sorcerers and curses. Keep reading, and who knows what other surprises await us in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe!
The popular manga series “Jujutsu Kaisen” concluded in September 2024, following a lengthy battle against the King of Curses. The final installments were published on Christmas Day, 2024, and included additional artwork. Volume 30 contained a 16-page epilogue focusing primarily on Nobara Kugisaki, Yuko Ozawa, Panda, and Uraume. Each character was given a four-page segment dedicated to their post-main story events. While the epilogues for Nobara, Yuko, and Panda provided insights into their lives after the main plot ended, Uraume’s epilogue offered a brief glimpse into the Heian period, depicting their initial encounter with Sukuna. Uraume is a secondary antagonist in “Jujutsu Kaisen,” despite being one of the strongest sorcerers, they had minimal involvement in the storyline.
In essence, Uraume’s character is primarily portrayed as a devoted servant to the formidable and complex villain, Sukuna, in the manga “Jujutsu Kaisen.” Although their relationship was not explicitly detailed, it’s evident that they shared a strong bond. Even after Uraume’s demise, Sukuna continued to show affection towards him, which resonated with fans. The epilogue featuring Uraume was positively received by the audience, primarily because of Sukuna’s presence. Notably, while Sukuna is highly popular in the series, Uraume didn’t garner as much fan attention due to his limited screen time. This suggests that readers would have appreciated more insights into Sukuna’s past, particularly during the Heian Era.
What Happens in Uraume’s Epilogue in Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 30?
In the Heian Era, a young individual named Uraume is discovered lying near their deceased parents. As a child, Uraume struggled to control their abilities which led to them freezing themselves and everything around them, including their family. This tragic event caught the attention of Sukuna who found the scene while out for a walk. Recognizing the potential of Uraume’s powers as a replacement for his damaged icehouse, Sukuna took the child under his wing. Over time, Sukuna discovered Uraume’s exceptional culinary skills and the two formed an unusual bond. While Uraume served as Sukuna’s subordinate, they also became his personal cook. It is commonly understood that Sukuna was a cannibal.
Thus, Uraume was inquired if they could prepare human meals as well. Sukuna replied that the flavor varies by individual, but it’s a sort of treat for him. However, Uraume didn’t seem bothered by this information. Instead, they questioned why Sukuna wasn’t chilled by their presence. The King of Curses also asked the same question, pondering why Uraume remained unfazed around him. In essence, Sukuna implied metaphorically since everyone who encountered him would feel a chill of fear. Hence, the most powerful sorcerer in history lived in isolation until they found Uraume. The story concluded with Uraume grasping Sukuna’s hand and departing, similar to Chapter 271.
The Jujutsu Kaisen Epilogue Proves Fans Would’ve Loved Sukuna’s Heian Flashback
As a long-time fan of manga and anime, I have come to appreciate the depth and complexity that well-crafted villains can bring to a story. In the case of Jujutsu Kaisen’s main antagonist, Sukuna, his mysterious background has left me captivated and eager for more insight into his character. While it’s not always necessary to know a character’s backstory, I find that understanding their past can help me connect with them on a deeper level.
Sukuna’s origin story, as far as we know, is one of abandonment and hardship. His mother, apparently unable or unwilling to care for him, left him at birth. The exact reason behind her decision remains unknown, but it seems plausible that his appearance may have been the cause. Sukuna himself hinted that his mother was so starved during pregnancy that he had to resort to cannibalism – consuming his twin in utero. This suggests that poverty might have played a role in his early life, as she may not have been able to provide for him.
The fact that Sukuna’s real name remains a mystery adds another layer of intrigue to his character. It’s possible that he never had one, or it could be hidden from us on purpose. Regardless, the title “Ryomen Sukuna” – given to him due to his status as the strongest sorcerer in history – serves as a stark reminder of the power and darkness that dwell within him.
In my experience, a compelling villain is one who elicits empathy or understanding from the reader, even if only in small doses. Sukuna’s tragic backstory has certainly piqued my curiosity and made me wonder about his motivations. I eagerly await more revelations about this intriguing character, as they will undoubtedly enrich the Jujutsu Kaisen storyline even further.
For years, I found myself dwelling in solitude, until my path crossed with Uraume. Known as an outcast within the realm of Jujutsu, Sukuna had long been shunned by others due to the fear he instilled. Only Yorozu dared to venture near him, but that bravery ultimately cost her life at Uraume’s hands. However, a pivotal event during the Heian Era brought forth all sorcerers to unite their powers against a single adversary. In the end, Sukuna met his demise due to their combined efforts. Regrettably, I never had the chance to delve into his past experiences. The epilogue, though brief at only four pages, proved captivating and even touching in its narrative.
In the Heian Era, Sukuna’s loss became such a renowned legend that it was orally preserved in the Jujutsu community for more than a millennium. This indicates that if Sukuna had a detailed backstory, the narrative would have been significantly more engaging. In Chapter 271, Sukuna discussed the two paths he was presented with. As he spoke, a woman and Uraume were shown standing on opposite sides, symbolizing the two options. However, her true identity is yet to be revealed. While she might be his mother, this is just speculation without any solid proof.
