As a lifelong fan of DC Comics and a dedicated follower of the DCEU (DC Extended Universe), I am beyond thrilled to share my thoughts on Jason Momoa’s upcoming role as Lobo in the upcoming film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Having watched Momoa bring Aquaman to life with such charisma and energy, I can only imagine what he will bring to the table for this iconic DC character.
Having been a fan of Momoa’s since his days on “Game of Thrones,” I have long awaited his return to the world of superheroes, and Lobo is a dream role that I never thought would come to fruition. While Aquaman was a complex, noble hero, Lobo is an outlandish, unhinged antihero who will surely bring a new level of excitement to the DCEU.
I can’t help but wonder what other DC characters Momoa’s Lobo might cross paths with in the future. With his larger-than-life personality and galaxy-spanning adventures, he could easily fit into the Green Lantern Corps as a rogue character that Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardener and Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart would have to face off against. I’m excited to see how Momoa brings this beloved character to life and can’t wait to see what other DCU adventures he embarks on after his debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
And as a final thought, I can’t help but imagine the hilarity that would ensue if Momoa’s Lobo ever met Aquaman again. After all, who wouldn’t want to see these two larger-than-life characters go head-to-head in a battle of wits and brawn? It’s a matchup I never knew I needed, but now can’t imagine the DCEU without!
Jason Momoa is transitioning between different DC universes, as he’s been confirmed to play Lobo in the upcoming DCU movie titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow“. Momoa gained fame for his role as Arthur Curry, also known as Aquaman, in the DC Extended Universe. His Aquaman journey started with a brief appearance in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and continues until 2023’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom“.
Jason Momoa has often spoken about his excitement for playing Lobo, referring to it as an ideal role in various interviews. Although Momoa’s portrayal of Aquaman has been highly praised, Lobo is a dramatically distinct DC character with a much more flamboyant personality and significance within the DC Universe. Furthermore, Lobo’s backstory may indicate that “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” will be just the beginning of a lengthy, interstellar journey for DC’s primary figure.
Who Is Lobo in DC Comics?
Originating from the planet Czarnia, Lobo was initially developed by Roger Slifer and Keith Griffin. He is a rogue space explorer and ruthless bounty hunter who has made a name for himself across the cosmos. Being the last of his kind, Lobo has a dark past – he’s responsible for exterminating his own people in pursuit of endless chaos. However, when it comes to his job as a bounty hunter, Lobo is unwaveringly dedicated, ensuring that he honors every contract he takes on during his latest hunt.
Born on Czarnia, Lobo boasts colossal superhuman power and indestructibility, abilities he’s used to go head-to-head with heavyweights like Superman more than once. His rough, untamed demeanor has earned him comparisons to DC Comics’ counterpart of Wolverine. Interestingly, Lobo and Wolverine clashed in the 1996 mini-series crossover titled “DC vs. Marvel“, but it was Wolverine who emerged victorious from that fight.
What Lobo’s Role Could Be in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
As a passionate film enthusiast, I find it quite intriguing that while Lobo doesn’t appear in the “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” comic, his character seems ripe for inclusion in the upcoming cinematic adaptation. In the comic, Kara Zor-El is on a quest for vengeance following her father’s murder at the hands of Krem from the Yellow Hills. This action prompts Krem to hire a bounty hunter to capture Kara. Given Lobo’s profession as a cosmic bounty hunter, the “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” movie could effortlessly cast Jason Momoa’s portrayal of Main Man as the hired gun chasing after Kara on behalf of Krem.
In essence, the comic series “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” could potentially serve as a trial run for a standalone movie or TV show featuring Lobo. Given his character traits, Lobo is more of an anti-hero than a villain initially, so he and Supergirl might team up before the end of this series, making it easier for Lobo to transition into a leading role in future projects. This scenario also raises questions about which other DC Universe characters Jason Momoa’s Lobo could encounter in the future.
Will Lobo Meet Superman in the DCU?
Though Lobo doesn’t hold a fixed arch-nemesis role for any specific DC superhero, he maintains a strong connection with Superman. Across various comic book stories and in the 90s animated series “Superman: The Animated Series,” Lobo often crossed paths with the Man of Steel. At that time, Lobo was particularly popular as a caricature of gritty antiheroes such as Wolverine and the Punisher. Given Jason Momoa’s Lobo is set to encounter one Kryptonian hero in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” it’s plausible that this meeting could be a prelude to Lobo eventually facing off against David Corenswet’s Superman.
In other words, since Jason Momoa is playing Lobo in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”, it’s possible he might also make a brief appearance in James Gunn’s “Superman”. This could be an effective way to hint at Lobo’s main role in “Woman of Tomorrow”, and establish him as a formidable enemy for Millie Allcock’s Kara Zor-El. Even if Momoa doesn’t appear on screen, “Superman” could simply reference Lobo as a bounty hunter Superman has encountered before in his extraterrestrial battles, foreshadowing Lobo’s upcoming confrontation with Supergirl.
In addition to interacting with the Kryptonian characters from the DC Universe, Jason Momoa’s Lobo might also act as both an enemy and an ally to numerous other DC heroes. Characters like Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardener and Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart in the Lanterns series could potentially cross paths with Lobo due to their shared history with the Green Lantern Corps. Since the members of the Green Lantern Corps have likely encountered Lobo before, he seems like a suitable character for them to meet. Although we don’t know exactly how significant Lobo’s role within the DC Universe will be, there are plenty of opportunities for him to create chaos across galaxies. Given this, it’s possible that after his debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Jason Momoa’s Lobo might make additional appearances in the DCU.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow releases in theaters on June 26, 2026.
