Julia Hart has her aims fixed on TBS Champion Mercedes Moné. Previously holding the title, she recently rejoined AEW following an injury sustained earlier this year. After taking a break for recuperation, she lost the championship to Willow Nightingale in April.
Ever since I’ve returned to AEW, my sights have been set on none other than the former AEW Women’s World Champion, Jamie Hayter, for our upcoming show, AEW Dynamite: Fight For The Fallen. If I can best her in this match, it’ll be a significant step towards reclaiming my spot as the queen of the division once more. In a recent chat with Variety, I made it clear why I chose Jamie as my first target after my comeback. “She’s had an impressive return,” I said, “but I aim to prove that my comeback will surpass hers. I’m planning on making waves throughout the locker room, and I’m sorry to say, Jamie, you’re first up.
As a seasoned wrestler myself, I wholeheartedly agree with Hart’s sentiments. Mercedes (Moné) has proven her worth time and again, making her a worthy titleholder in my eyes. Not only that, but Willow (Nightingale) also deserves recognition for dethroning me and showcasing her skills. I have yet to cross paths with Mariah (May) or Toni (Storm), but they’ve certainly made their mark on the wrestling world. If given the opportunity, I would relish the chance to learn from the ringcraft of Serena Deeb, as I believe she has much to teach me. Each of these women brings something unique and valuable to the sport, enriching it with their talent and passion.
Apart from Hayter and Hart, there are other women who have recently returned to wrestling, and Storm is one of them. She has abandoned her “Timeless” persona and reverted back to her original rocker identity as Toni. However, it seems that she has developed some form of memory loss. Despite being in AEW for quite a while now, she appears to believe that she’s only just made her debut and can’t remember the past year. Nevertheless, she is currently partnered with May.
Moné has been the TBS Champion since AEW’s Double or Nothing in May. Her latest successful title defense was against Kris Statlander at AEW Worlds End, a match that many believe was the highlight of the event. In a week’s time, her next challenger could be decided at Wrestle Dynasty. Four female wrestlers from STARDOM, AEW, ROH, and CMLL will compete to earn a future title shot. The contenders are Persephone, Athena, Nightingale, and Momo Watanabe.
As a lifelong wrestling fan, I have to say that the growth and development of AEW’s women’s division has been nothing short of inspiring. Having followed the industry for decades, it’s refreshing to see such a renewed energy and focus on the female athletes in All Elite Wrestling.
The recent returns of established stars like Riho and Serena Deeb have brought a sense of nostalgia and excitement that was long overdue. It reminds me of the days when women’s wrestling was given the spotlight it deserved, and I can’t help but feel hopeful for the future.
I truly believe that AEW is on the right track with its commitment to longer matches, complex storylines, and a roster full of talented individuals. If they continue to invest in their women’s division as they have been, I see no limits to what they can achieve by 2025. I eagerly await new signings that will further solidify AEW’s position as a leader in the wrestling world when it comes to showcasing the incredible talents of its female performers.
